Can anyone identify this scope, give me a start?

   Hello!  My Step Dad had this very big very heavy scope, and I cannot fathom it going on a rifle.  Redfield. It is super heavy.  He had told me it was his Dad’s, and he was in the military, probably war, when my step dad was young.  He was 63.  I will see if I can figure out this forum to post a couple pics. But it is solid metal, it feels, it is about 15” long, 3-4” wide, I am guessing about 5# now I will try to get pics. 
Thank you in advance on any advice. 
I couldn’t figure out how to get a pic up.  Dang.
