Once upon a time I saw a post over on another board that made mention of a guy using that white medical tape (like the stuff trainers use to tape up ankles etc) to wrap his scope, and then painted over the tape, so he wouldn't be altering the finish of his scope forever.

I am in a similar situation, having two sets of scopes/rings mounted to rifles that are all painted up, but I do not wish to paint the scope tubes.  I had thought of using silicone to fasten burlap strips and simply wrap the scopes so the black bodies were covered, however if anyone has any suggestions similar to the one above (not sure about painting over tape....) I'd love to hear them.

Thanks.

Yes , pull the tape out in strips, say like 5, paint a line across all five before attaching, then change colors 2-3 inchs down. Some guys just tape burlap around the scope tubes.

You can buy camo non adhesive covering from Cablea's that
is like shrink wrap and goes on with a hair dryer.
Brownell's also has neoprene reusable sleeve sets to cover the gun and scope.
Trouble with tape & burlap is it holds moisture.

If you dont want ot paint the optic make a mini ghilie (not spelled right) for it. Netting an colored jute. Put some fish net over the optic, super glue it together (we used to use shoe goo) under the optic. Dont make the netting tight should have about an 1/2 inch of hang down under it (but not enough to get ito the action. Tie on and glue Jute until you heart is content. Now trim the jute so it dosent interfear with the action and your good to go
