I have a friend from this forum who was having problem finding a butt plate for an older stock he had. I told him to send it to me "I like the challenge'. This is an odd ball sized butt plate on this stock. I looked at gun show's and thru all my box's of recoil pads and plates. anyways I told him I would build one.

This is the mini 14 "tapco" stock I used to get the matrial for this job.

I then had to mill out the inside of the matrial where the action og the mini 14 sat.

I then had to take the stock and work it to a nice and flat area for the plate to lay on. It had some build up of something and was not near a flat surface. All good now.

I took and scribed the matrial and cut it down to a close fit to the stock for the test fit.

I then to and drilled my holes and took my jig and finished the edges and angles for this.
as stated before it is an odd ball sized plate and wouldn't fit in my jig correctly, but I got it to work.

Here she is close to being finished up. I hope this will pass the customer test and they will like it. I'm pleased with it.

I have about 4 hours in this stock. It just cracks me up I cut up a stock to fix a stock, but hey you got to do what you got to do. I beat the challenge.

Thunbs Up Thunbs Up  Now THAT'S what I was looking for!

Guys,I was looking for a way to reduce the LOP on that stock w/o cutting it down. The rifle's got a good bit of sentimental value to it (and now more so).  I found that w/o the recoil pad it fit me perfect.  I tried every butt plate I could get my hands on but none would fit or was big enough to be made to fit.
Enter,Bd.  He agreed to take on the challenge.  After going thru many times more butt plates than I did trying to find one to work he decided to make one.  Now I can be a "McGiver" if need be but that's clearly out of my league if for nothing else due to the lack of the right equipment for the job.  Can't wait to give her a try.  I was going to have the stock hydro dipped but I think I'll wait until after hunting season is over.

Thanks guys, I enjoy working on things as long is it's not mine. Being a perfectionist suck when working on your own stuff.
