Let me preface this by saying that I am notoriously hard on binoculars!

Having said that, last year I bit the bullet and bought a very nice set of Bushnell 10x43 Elite's that I really like. I'd like to keep them nice as long as possible, obviously. I've already had to send them in for repair after I damaged them while crawling around on the ground turkey hunting this past spring....I know, I know, I should have taken them off BEFORE I started belly crawling to slip up on the goobler!

Anyway, I was thinking about buying a couple of the Butler Creek Blizzard Flip Open scope covers to put on the objective end of the bino's to protect the glass. I thought I would get the clear ones so that if I need to get up quick, I could at least still see through them although not with great clarity.

Has anyone tried doing this? Do they make ones that will fit snugly on around the OD of the objective lens?

Let me know your thoughts, or other things you've done!

Thanks!
Chris

I have a pair of 10X50 Leica Ultravids with buttler creek 50mm scope caps on them.  I did it because the rubber caps provided by Leica suck....the news ones are much better.   I like them, they protect the lens very well and are easily flipped open.  The fit tight but do accumulate dust, this dust is just between the housing and the covers and does not reach the lens.  I would do it.

P.S.  the can be a bit noisy though, when crawling; hard plastic you know.

they won't fit. Your elite 43mm binos have 1/2" of free barrel at the objective end. The flip up covers are much wider and will have to be trimmed quite a bit.

...and, the binoculars are cylindrical in shape, while the flips have a cone/bell shaped rubber body. If you trim it, what is left may be a tad too large in diameter to stay on the binos.

You would be better off to look into rubber stay on objective covers designed for binoculars. They fit and they work easily and quietly. They can be found for $8 a pair or so. Well stocked interned sites catering to birders and their optics have them.
