How does the Bushnell Elite 4200 compare to the Zeiss Conquest? I love the idea of the etched reticle on the Conquest, and the long constant eye relief of 4 inches. This is going on a Ruger Number 1-S. My reloads are for 350 Grain Barnes Semi Spire Points at 2400 FPS, and it really thumps you good.  This will be a big game rifle, has enough energy to kill any animal in North America at 250 Yards with decent bullet drop. So, i was thinking a Zeiss Conquest 3-9X40 would be a nice choice. I also like the looks of a Bushnell Elite 4200 1.5-6X36. Then there are two scopes that would be inbetween which are the Leupold VX-III 2.5-8X36 and the Kahles 2-7X36. Which is the best optically? Is the Kahles recticle etched or wire? I have heard they are wire but their TDS recticle is etched which would be useful with those long shots, but still have the wide FOV for close range. The only set back to the Kahles is the eye relief

I want something with good eye relief and something with enough magnification to sucessfully take shots at 250 yards on big game animals. In my opinion, the Zeiss Conquest 3-9X40 is the best choice, with its constant 4 inches of eye relief and an etched recticle. It will be wearing butler creek scope caps, so bad weather isnt a big issue. What do you all think?

I am a big believer in the Conquest.  But, every scope you list is good.

I really like what the Conquest has to offer, i believe it is the Stud of the mid-priced scopes. Lets hear what everyone else has to say.

I don't know of another scope that beats out the conquest in it's price range. With the way you talk about Zeiss you may have to change your avatar.
