I am looking for an inexpensive AO scope for my son's 22.  So far I have identified:
Bushnell 3.5-10 x 36 Banner Dusk till Dawn for $90
Bushnell 3-9 x 32 Sportsman for $70
Bushnell 4-12x40 Banner Dusk till Dawn for $90 and
Bushnell 4-12x40 Trophy (normally $175) on sale for $90.

All of these have AO.  Is the Trophy better as you might expect from the normal price?  Are any of these any good optically?  Which would you recommend (and why)?  Is there anything better in this price range?

THe Weaver RV9 is tempting but I really don't want to spend $200.

Thanks.

Oops!  Topic should read Bushnell.  Sorry, I am a terrible typist.

I just found a Simmons 4-12x40 Prohunter master with side focus for $125.  It also weighs less than the others.  Does anyone have any experience with that scope or know how it compares with the others?

Of those that you listed as affordable (including the Simmons)  I'd lean heavily toward the Trophy as long as it has A/O. It's just a better scope than the other Bushys and Simmons is too much in flux right now with several ownership changes in a row for me to trust. Maybe someone else has more current information on how they are doing.

My next choice in you're price range (~$90-120?) would be a Muller APV 4.5-14x40 w/AO.

Here is a good rule of thumb list from Chuck Hawks.

I have 2 Simmons 22 mag scopes mounted on my sons' .17HMRs and they work just fine.  I think one is a 3-9X32 and the other is a 4X32.

What is the intended use of the .22?  that might help with suggestions.
take em!

The rifle is going to be used for informal target shooting, plinking and hunting.  It is a youth sized rifle (CZ scout) so I don't want something too huge.  AO would be nice because it will be used at less than 100 yards mostly.  The Nikon 2-7 shotgun sccope might be a possibility as well since it has parallex set at less than 100 yards.

Take a look at the Weaver RV7 2.5-7x28 rimfire scope. It doesn't have AO but it's set for 50yds and it's nice and small. But that Trophy would still tempt me because he can grow into it.
