The SS is a better scope, no question.

And it is FFP and mil reticle with mil turrets.

On what will it be mounted?

An FFP scope with matching reticle/turrets is so much more enjoyable to shoot. You can dial in corrections without any conversion. Example: You are shooting at an unknown distance and see that the bullet impacted .7 mils right and 1.1 mils low. You can dial in .7 mils of windage left and 1.1 mils up and that's that. In practice, of course, you would want to know as closely as possible the distance and ballistics info to set up the first shot.
Reaction time is a factor...

Okay. Just took another look at the Bushnell, and see that although it has a Mil Dot Illuminated Reticle, it has MOA adjustments. That is a no go.

The rifle is:

Weird, tried to copy and paste the elements of my Rifle. Let's try that again:

 Rifle: Remington 700 Police, .308
HBRMS Harris Bipod 6-9" Swivels w/ notches
Tactical Intervention Specialists, Quick Cuff Model M24 Military Precision Sling
 Blackhawk Ammo Cheek Pad
Seekins Precision 1913 Rail & Low Rings
Scope: FINAL THING TO BUY: Probably the SWFA 3-9x42 Tacticle Rifle Scope

This Bushnell is Mil/Mil if I am reading it correctly:

So if I compare the two, it appears that the Bushnell has the advantage.

Keep in mind though, better glass trumps more magnification.  I don't have either of these scopes to compare, but the reviews favor the SS.  Don't know how many mils of elevation/windage each has.

Given the fact that the SWFA SS has proven reviews for durablity and functionality from some more that dependable sources that alone makes me more comfortable with that purchase. Illumination gives you no advantage if it is isn't durable and functional in other aspects which I have not seen proven yet with the new Bushnell. Not that I doubt that company just looking at all options. I also heard about some issues with the Illumintaion flooding the inside of the tube even on the lowest power setting and emitting light from the objective on higher powers. Might be worth looking into. Let me know what you find, I would be intrested to hear your opinion.

Both appear to have enough adjustment to go out to 1000 with a 20 MOA base, which I have. It seems at this point, the only real advantage of the SS scope is the durability. I can't find any direct comparisons of these two scopes.

According to Bushnell:

"The one-piece tube is recoil tested with 10,000 rounds of 375 H&H for unfailing reliability."

Here is a pretty in depth review from some guys that have the scope in their hands:

http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1736433&page=2

Seems that some of them are having some reticle issues at the 10-12x level.

I think no matter what you read and hear that the SS will be the choice. When you get it you'll say nothing else compares

I'll post pictures when the whole rig is complete.

Cool deal. I was meaning to chime in and ask if there was an upper magnification limit shooting in your class? Some are topped out at 6x. As you were looking at variable powers, it's not a big deal. Sounds like it'll be a really nice package when you get it all together. Please post a pic or 2 when you get it all buttoned up.

Indeed there is. Forgot to mention that. The 100 and 200 yard is maximum 6x. That is why I did not scoop up the SS fixed 10x. You can use any variable scope, just have to set it at 6x and tape it.

With this scope, I can use the 9x on the silhouettes out to 500 yards, and the 6x setting for the 100 and 200 yard.

Will be sure to post some pics. Should be all up and running in about 3-5 weeks.
