Hello!  I am a long time lurker but this is my first post here.

I am looking for a lower cost, close-to-medium range hunting scope with good dawn/dusk performance and an illuminated reticle.  I have been looking at these three:

  • Bushnell Trophy XLT 1.5-6x42
  • Hawke Eclipse 1.5-6x44
  • Hawke Endurance 30 1.5-6x42

These are all 30mm tubes, same power, similar objectives, illuminated german-style reticles, etc.  They are in my price range with the Hawke Endurance towards my upper limit at this time.  I am looking for the best scope for the money with these specs I am hoping for some opinions (based on experience please!) of these.  Any recommendations on other models/brands with similar specs would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Endurance 30 is the best one of these three by a good margin.

Thanks ILya!

Any other brands/models you recommend?  I might be able to sneak up to $500 past the book keeper (a.k.a. my wife) Big Smile

There are not a whole lot of 1.5-6x40 scopes out there unfortunately, so these are slim pickings.

Burris used to make a Euro Diamond in 1.5-6x40 which would make a good used scope as would a Zeiss Conques 1.5-5.5x38

If you can extend you range a bit further, Meopta Meostar 1.5-6x42 is very nice.

ILya,

Although it is probably a bit much at this point I was looking for the Meopta R1 you mentioned.  I don't see it listed on SWFA - I don't even see it listed on Meopta's website.  I think that scope was just introduced in mid-2011.  Has that scope already been discontinued?

One thing I like about the Hawke Endurance 30 is 4+ inches of eye relief.  Reading about the Meopta it seems it may be ~3 inches - is this the case?  If so I think the Hawke is where I would want to go regardless of the price.

Thanks!

Hi,

The Meostar R1 1.5-6x42 RD riflescope is definitely avaialble and in stock.  Please contact SWFA or Meopta USA directly about pricing and ordering.

Thanks!
Yes I work for Meopta, but I am not here to sell Meopta. Just answering questions and providing reasonable insight.

I just called SWFA and, although helpful as always, they said they do not sell the Meostar R1 1.5-6x42.  As mentioned, I don't even see this scope listed on the Meopta website.

It seems this could be the ultimate deep woods, close range hunting scope.  This scope is likely to be a stretch for me pricewise but I would at least like to know the price. Smile

The scope only began to be delivered to the US a few months ago, so it's probably the case that SWFA has not added it to their lineup yet. Best bet would be to give Meopta USA a call at 1-800-828-8928 to inquire about pricing.

I'm a fan of the Hawkes scopes. I've loved mine.
