I have an older scope , a Bushnell Scopechief IV-M that has a strange mount on it. Can anyone tell me anything about it? what it will mount to, whether other mounts are available? It is 2.75 power and also has the command post. Thank you!

That is a late sixties-early seventies Bushnell Built-In Mount called the M series.  Those mounts that are attached to your scope will fit virtually all factory tapped rifles....you need to disconnect the mounts from the scope and set them on your receiver according to the tapped holes on your rifle and them re-attach the scope.  At least, that is what it says in an old American Rifleman magazine ad that I am looking at right now. ( August 1968 page 73).  I gather it only attaches to TWO of the holes in the receiver....              --Ed

Showin yer age again Ed! And I thought I collected mags! Recently got a S&W(Husquvarna) .30-06 rifle I'm cleaning up and hopefully buying that has a std Bushnell Scopechief lV  3x-9x w/Command Post. Pretty nice scope altough the flat top post doesn't center in the vertical crosshair. Hearing quite a bit about these scopes lately.

If anyone might have a copy of the American rifleman that shows the article on it, I could sure use a copy. Thank you!

Well, it is not an article---it was an advertisement.  I could probably make a copy and send it to you....it is NOT really very informative.....I understand that the mounts are supposed to be universal---at least, that is the way it was written....but using only ONE hole per base doesn't sound very SECURE to me....

Actually, I would just stick the scope in the closet as an "antique scope" and use something else in the real world for actual shooting.

I have a pile of old magazines....not a whole lot....maybe 25 or so...they come in very handy for looking up stuff from the sixties and seventies.  Bandito

Those old Husqvarnas are nice...I used to have an old FN actioned Husqvarna AB from the early 50s.  A 30/06 that shot like crazy.  Alas, I sold it a few years ago when I needed some money for a school thing for my daughter.  Dead

It is a nice scope though, I was thinking of putting it on one of my kids 22's and was trying to get enough info to do it.
