I am shopping for an 80mm spotting scope to be used primarily at the range (though it will see some time in the mountains for general terrestrial viewing).  The most I will push it is to see 22 rimfire at 100 yards.  I'd like an angled scope with an adjustable collar.  My budget is around $400.

Both the Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 20-60 x80 and the Alpen 20-60 x80 fit the bill and are similarly priced. The Bushnell is quite a bit heavier but touts ED glass.  Given my needs, any opinions between these two (or other) scopes?

Thanks...

Those are nice scopes in that price range, but check out the Celestron Regal ED series as well.

Great suggestion, but to stay in my price range, I would have to drop down to the 65mm with less magnification.  Is the Regal glass that much brighter to compensate for the smaller aperture?

SWFA doesn't sell them, unfortunately.  However, if you look around the net I have seen the Regal ED 80mm for $460 shipped.  Just do a little digging.
