I am looking at a new pair of binos for hunting and like both of these; Bushnell Legend Porro 8x42, and Nikon Action Extreme 7x50.

Which do you think would be better for low light viewing? I don't know much about binos and would appreciate any help provided.

I was looking for something with similar clarity to my rifle scope. It is a Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9x40.

7x50mm should have a 'slight' edge over the 8x42mm.

7x50mm = less magnification + more aperture. All else being equal, a larger objective usually delivers more detail to the eye, regardless of magnification. Higher magnification yields lower brightness levels.

However that can easily be offset by the fact that the Nikon only offers MC/multi-coated optics, whereas Bushnell offers FMC/fully multi-coated optics. One of the benefits of FMC is LESS reflection and MORE light transmission to your eyes.

You would have to test both side by side, the difference may be too-close-to-call.

Both binoculars should be brighter than your rifle scope, when it is set at 7-9x40mm

That 7x50 is also going to be a lot bigger and heavier than the 8x42.  If you don't carry your binocular very much, this might not matter much.   However, if you're going to use your binocular properly (i.e. it stays around your neck at all times) the smaller Bushnell might just prove very welcome.
