I need help!  I owned a pair of Bushnell Legend Elite 8x42 binoculars and I loved the image quality BUT they started rattling.  I couldn't take it and returned them to Bushnell.  I then started looking around for something to replace them and came across the Sightron Blue Sky 8x32's so I ordered them.  In the meantime I went to Gander Mtn and looked through the Nikon Monarch 5's and really liked the image.  My sightron 8x32's arrived and I really am disappointed.  It seems like when I am about to get the image crisp it gets blurry and never gets as crisp as my Bushnells or the Monarch 5's.  Also, I have decided I would prefer a 10 power.  My use for these binoculars is hunting so rattling is no good.  My question for you experts is:

Any comments on Bushnell Legend Elite 10x42's versus Nikon Monarch 5 10x42's?

I was a little gunshy on ordering more Bushnells since my first pair seemed to suffer from potential quality control issues........anyone else have trouble with this sort of thing with their Bushnell binos?

Other binos I have considered are Sightron Blue Sky 10x42's and Weaver Grand Slam 10x50's (although I cannot find ANY reviews or anything positive or negative on these).  I don't understand half of the technical stuff you guys and gals write about binos on here but I'm about to pull my hair out over this.  Thanks in advance!

I've had some Bushnell issues, with both binoculars and service department.  My experience wit their service made me clean out my Bushnell optics.

I'd say the Monarch 5 might put you most of the way to where you want to be, for the simple reason that you have looked at them and like them.  The Legend Ultra HD has a wider fov, but I have no idea how important that is to you.

The only eyes that have to be impressed or satisfied with your binocular are yours.  Hence my feeling about the Monarch 5.  If you have looked at them and like them, that's the biggest part of the battle.

Last year hunting in Kansas I broke a pair of the cheaper Bushnell binos. (Door slammed on them). I looked at various Leupold, Nikon, Bushnell and Burris and a brand I had never heard of Vanguard.  Once I looked through the Vanguard Endeavor ED 10.5x45 I was sold.  To me, they were noticeable better than any of the others in the 350 dollar range.  Now with 2 hunting seasons on them I'm still happy, happy, happy.Big Grin They also make other sizes and styles.  I have since looked at reviews on them and they get high ratings.

Of those two, I'd pick the Monarch 5. Seems more consistent in quality and I think better service as well. Not to say there aren't other good binos in that price range, but the Nikon Monarch 5 is pretty nice.

I have a pair of Weaver 10x50 Grand Slams.

I speak VERY highly of them.  Very comfortable to hold, no eye strain at all for me.  Very bright, sharp Japanese made optics.

I had a pair of Zen ED3s and returned them over the Weavers.

I also have the 8.5/45s.  Had to return for warranty issues--Weaver sent me a new pair--no questions.

A solid buy!

I had a pair of monarch 5 in 8x42. Fantastic build quality and very light. Optically the FOV was a bit barrow but it was pretty sharp across the field. The IPD adjustment is pretty loose and closes when you hold it one handed
