Which would you rather have on your all around hunting rifle a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44 #4 or a Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 Fine Multi-X?
Thanks,
Sam

............Given these two choices and even though I`m an Elite fan, I`d go with the Zeiss in this case as the better choice for an all-round hunting rifle. Imo, the #4 is simply the best reticle for hunting.

16x on the high end is great for the bench, but with the exception of varmit use, it has little to no realistic or practical value for hunting in the field under any situation. Regardless of distance, most hunters will never go beyond 4x to 6x for their kill shots, let alone up to 12x to 16x. Also, the higher the magnification, the more difficult it is to hold steady for a kill shot.

If there is no smaller longer range varmit hunting on the agenda, the Zeiss clearly gets my nod on this one. But then again, I would consider a varmit caliber to be a .243 or less. Certainly not in the same class to be considered as an all-round caliber like a 7mm or a .30.

From the fast 25`s up to the 338`s, assuming your all-round caliber is somewhere in there, the Zeiss is the better choice.

I'm no fan of the fine plex for hunting. Conquest has the better reticle.

I've dealt with the Customer Service for both and, with me, it was a wash, both were great.

I have no experience with the 6500 so I can't say there, but I really like Conquest for the money.  If 6500 is simply a much better 4200, how could you go wrong?

Either would be nice. 16X is a little high for a hunting rig (unless varmint) but with the zoom range, it'd be fine to have.

Reticule choice is the big issue, and that falls to preference.

Good luck.

After thinking about it for a while I think the 6500 is a bit heavy for me and after researching reticles, I like the Zeiss options much better.

How about the ----Bushnell 2.5-10x40 Elite 4200 Rifle Scope ..

Rainguard & 2.5X on the bottom end and same 10X on top end .... either product is a good choice, but for me the Rainguard puts advantage to the 4200

Zeiss has the Rapid Z reticle which looks like a great one. Does anyone have the Rapid Z reticle?

Love it. I shoot from 100 to 6-700 yards and never touch a turret. If you use the calculator on Zeiss's website, you can figure out the reticle that would work best for your caliber and load. Never owned a 6500, but after looking in to the 4200's I have to say that for the money I was impressed. Still love my Conquest.

The 6500 2.5 - 16 was impressive at first but I found all three of mine have pronounced fish eye distortion at the low end magnification.  It is very pronounced when following a moving target.  Of course you are likely to have it set low for moving targets so this is a substantial gaff on Bushnell's part.  When holding steady on paper you will not hardly notice it, but once you start swinging the rifle it is almost enough to cause motion sickness as the image at the edges warps!  What were they thinking when they built the optical system on these?
