Hello!

I just bought a Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9*40 in the US, and went back to europe. I have encountered a problem (im not quite sure it is a problem, but anyway here we go )

How does the focus knob work? I have tried to turn it, but it wont move out of the spot...

On the picture below, of course the front knob is zoom, and the rear should be focus, but i dosent move...

Hope somebody can help me!

Thanks!

Welcome to The OT!!

The fast focus eye piece doesn't turn clock wise, nor counter clock wise??

Is that correct??

If the eye focus piece won't turn, you have a problem.

Now, sometimes the focus ring on new scopes may be "stiff", but should move clock wise and counter clock wise without any real brute force.

ok...Thats bad....

I found this: http://www.bushnell.com/customer_service/cffaq/faq_main.cfm? faqT=answer&qid=24&catID=5&Keyword =

Currently, my focus is ok. But when i go to high magnifications, i have to move my head, before both the reticle and the target is sharp.....

Please see page 4 here: http://www.bushnell.com/customer_service/manuals/riflescopes /Elite_Riflescope_Manual.pdf

Thanks so far.

If the focus ring won't turn, it needs to go back, my friend.

Sorry for your trouble.

So what is your opinion about your new scopes optics? Can you give us some info on how it compares to some of your other scopes?

Hehe...Well....Its my only scope, for my very first rifle, a Steyr Scout 308Win.....

But i can compare it to a Zeiss Diascope 85T*FL 85mm lens i use for spotting deer at extended range....Of course, this comparison is non-sense, but still, i can make some points....

First thing i checked was chromatic aberration (Where the target is casting several shadows, one in each colour, making the picture blurry)... The Zeiss of course has none. The Bushnell performs far better than some of my other sports optics, but still there is a little bit of it. But you would hardly notice it, if you werent looking for it, and even then, you would have to look towards a dark target, against a very bright background.

Next - colours....Its a bit pale (a slight touch of a white "mist") compared against my eye and the Diascope....But then again...Its not a birding-scope for digi-scoping, its a riflescope and its doing the job just fine. One problem here is that the target colours fades/becomes black quite fast, when the background becomes bright.

Brightness: Here in Denmark youre only allowed to hunt untill sunset. And up until this time its still great, and will do the job...Unless you move up to max-magnification....Then it turns dark quite fast. Also, i can imagine, that dense forrests/brush would pose a problem when the light gets dim. A binocular with large objective diameter to initially recognize the target, and then find it with the scope could solve the problem.

Resolution: Good enough. I tested it at the usual shooting distances (i guess, up to 200yards), and in decent light, you should be able to see whether the deer is a 2,4 or 6 pointer. But again...its not a diffraction-limited Hubble-telescope.....

Sun glare: i didnt notice any, but it wouldt suprise me that there will be some when i have tested it further.....

Eye-relief: Quite constant acoss the whole magnification range.

"Tunnel-effect": no problem at low magnfication, and quite tollerant for head-placement... But at 9x magnification its very sensitive to where i place my head...more sensitive than i like. The image quickly disappears, this might be a problem during a quick-shot situations.

It will be tested at the shooting-range within a week...I will return, if i have anything to add.

Its my first riflescope, but im no novice when it comes to sports-optics...

Its a quite decent scope...especially for the money...about 250USD....And you get the rainguard coating and 10.000 .375 H&H shots recoil-proofing. Im quite happy so far, and im 100% confident that it will do its job - to shoot roedeer from sunrise to sunset, in a non-forrest/jungle/dense brush enviroment!

Feel free to write back, if you want further information.
