Hey guys. I'm looking at the Bushnell 2.5-16x42 Elite 6500 with a 30mm tube for my Rem 700 PPS .308. Does anyone use this on a rifle like this or have better ideals. I will be shooting at man size targets at 500 to 700 plus meters and other things. May use it for criters at times also. This is my primary weapon when it comes to protection. My other is my M1 Grand which is and awsome weapon in the right hands. I'm use to shooting iron sites but the eyes are getting weaker now these days. Would like to stay under $750. Any help would be great.

That should be a good one for your needs.  Make sure to get a 20 MOA one piece base and some good rings for it and it should serve you well.

I recently went through the same thing for my modified PSS. I went with a Leupold 8.5x25x50 LRT. I shoot F class out to 1,000 yards. I like the turrets on the Leupold alot better as well as the C.S. and reliability of Leupold.

Thanks for the input. Would you have some specific rings in mind?

This is outside of your price range a bit, but would be faster than turning turrets for range. If it was my defense weapon for those ranges, I would feel pretty confident in this. I hit a 10" steel gong at 5-700 all day with one.

The Leupy or 6500 would be good choices for dialing range though. Just throwing out options.

I am very partial to the Barrett adjustable rings. They dont make them anymore but you can easily find them. They would work perfect on a .308 and you wont need to buy an expensive 20moa rail. Mine never slipped on a .50bmg so they would work fine on a .308

You might also like the Sightron SIII mil-dot 3.5-10x44 - http://www.swfa.com/pc-12945-1512-new-sightron-35-10x44-siii-30mm-riflescope.aspx

It has target knobs. I don't know if that's something the Bushnell can easily be modified to take. But for the ranges you're talking it seems like no need to go over 10X.

All of the scopes above would serve you well.

Personally, I think for $700 Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 with Mil-Dot is about as versatile as it gets.

it is a great scope, with good features, and great glass. i really like the tool-less turrets. makes resetting your zero in the field quick and easy.

for those recommending holding over with a reticle, all i can say is you obviously havnt shot LR very much.

get you some badger rings, and base and youll be good to go.
