Has iron sights.  What would be a good set of rings?  I am assuming I want something rigid, lightweight and good clearance from barrel/iron sights.  Thoughts?

I really like Warne rings and you can get a torque wrench that is set to the right tension, great for do-it-yourselfers!

I too like the Talley Lightweights. Bought a set for my .270 WSM and they are excellent. Warne, also makes excellent rings. I must say that for the money the Talley's are hard to beat.

I like the Talley steel QD's. They are very well made and being a detachable will work nicely with your irons, if needed for back up.
They look great IMO, and are used on many custom guns.

...............No!.... No mechanical problems or optical issues that I know of.
In fact they have great glass.

A 2.5x16 6500 would not be my first choice for a BAR 30-06. Unless hunting smaller varmits and paper punching, or hunting from a stand, imo, it is too heavy (17 to 21 oz.) with too much magnification for my taste. Over scoping for an `06.

A 9x to 10x max in a lighter variable is more do-able for me.
