Hello All,
I've been lurking for several weeks - reading all I can read from multiple sites regarding scopes.  I was wondering if you all could help me define some of the pro's and con's to these two scopes.  I'll be mounting it on a Savage M12 LPV 308 that I would like to get into shooting some longer distances with.  Right now, the range I go to is max'd at 100m.  This gun would be used for longer distances and some occasional varmint hunting.

Aside from any input you care to offer up, here are a few other questions:
  - What is the high-end usable magnification in a 50mm ap?  Is the Bushy 30x usable, or does image quality dive as you power up that it's not any use.?
  - Do you think I'd need more than 25X for shooting 500-700m?
  - Do both scopes have enough MOA adjustment to deal with this range?  (I was planning on a 20MOA base).
  - I was also looking at The Burris Black Diamond, Nikon Monarch, and the other Bushnell (4200 & 6500) with a similar mag levels ~5-~25x50m.
  - My budget is max'd at about $900-$1000.   I would prefer to use less, but I think I've learned that cheap glass doesn't pay.  This is only one of the guns that I need to buy glass for this Spring.  The other isn't in my hands yet and I don't know what I'm going to do for that one.  Guess that's a good problem to have, though. :-)

Thanks for your time and any input.
Cory

I have been doing some more research and I'm liking the Sightron III 8-32X56mm more and more.  I'm looking at the mil-dot and the fine cross hairs, not the target dot models.  Pros?  Cons?  I've read lots of good feedback on so many of these posts and I was hesitant to post this questions since it seems like there's lots of posts out there with similar spirit where someone just seems to lazy to research themselves.  Sorry it the post appears that way - was not my intent.

I appreciate any insight from experience someone cares to share.

Thanks,
  Cory

The sightron does have the adjustment advantage of 100 vs the bushnell 50.  I doubt you would ever use the magnification beyond 24ish and at 30 your going to have some image quality loss.  The bushnell does offer low end magnification but the sightron does not as well as boasting the rainguard feature which is wonderful.  With a 20MOA base I think the 50 with the bushnell would be plenty and it would be my choice.  I would even say i would step down to the 4200 6x24-50T and save a little money with little sacrifce to quality

I would go with a new Sightron S III in the power spread of your choice, because of the warranty and the high praises of glass clarity. I will be buying a new S III Tactical in either 16X or 20X for exclusively ground-hog hunting.
