I keep going back and fourth between the 4200 2.5-10 50mm and the Zeiss Conquest 3-9 50mm.  I can get the 4200 for $399 and the Conquest for $519 (from vendors I will not mention).  Is the Conquest that much better in glass quality over the 4200 to merit an additional $120?

probably not, but i would see if swfa will price match the conquest for $519 thats only $80 less than swfa sells them for everyday.

I just picked up a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 and I am very happy with it.  The eye relief is very generous when compared with my 4200.  The 4200 is still an excellent scope though.

I have both these and you have unlocked a great rule of thumb.
4200 for the lighter recoiling guns and Conquest for the harder kickers.
Either one is a real value in scopes under $400.

I'm with the 1st two posters.  I had a 4200 3-9 on a lightweight Whelen, and it's the only scope that's ever bitten me.

For '06 or below, it's awfully hard to beat the 4200 for what they're selling for these days.  My eyes could see a difference in the Conquest's clarity, & eye relief.  When I bought mine in Spring of '07, there was only about $50 of difference between them.

Then again, it's mostly academic for me, given how I've been trending toward fixed 4X's anymore.
