I just picked up a Bushnell 4200 2.5x10x50 on clearance for $299 from a Gander Mountain by my house. Is Bushnell discontinuing this model? A second Gander Mountain near my work has it for $499. I wasn't looking for an objective that big, but I couldn't pass it up at this price. It should work nice for my 7mm Rem Mag.

I think Gander gets some factory seconds at times.

If its a second I can't tell. The box had the original price of $539 on it. Then a markdown of $439..Then the clearance of $299. I was leaning towards it had been there for awile and they were getting rid of inventory. Also, another nearby Gander store recently closed, and it could have been left over from that store(they had a large clearance sale before the store closed).

Just a quick aside: It's been really funny, some of the responses I've gotten from people, when I show them the 4200 I picked up. The most common one is, "Bushnell?! WHY did you get a crappy scope like that? Man, you wasted $300 on that?!" Then there's the "Should have got a Leupold."

Then they look through it, and kind of give it a "Not bad."

Not bad indeed.

..............Feet in cement and head in the sand is a great national pastime! With the 4200`s, it seems no different. Bushnell with some, will always have the stigma as a cheaper, lower quality scope!..........UNTIL THEY LOOK THRU IT!!!!

People are brainwashed by Leupold.  They have just been told so many times over the years that they are the sh*t so now that is what people think.  They don't get it that others are making better optics at lower prices these days.

Aside from this forum, the 4200 is sadly a well kept secret in the optics world.

This forum has been pimping them for years.
These guys are always ahead of the curve though.  Wink

I would buy a Leupold Vari-X II if I could find a nice one for twenty bucks. It would come in handy when you wanted a scope that had 82% light transmission after sunset when you were on the way back to your truck while your buds were still up in the high country hunting until after dark with their 4200s and their old Weavers.     Bandito    aie chihuahua!

(  But they got a bueno warranty, you damn gringos!!)

Gander Mountain makes plenty of mistakes on prices but you got a good scope at that price.Back in November they had a big sale on the Nikon Buckmaster 199.00 & Burris Fullfield 199.00 I happened to look at the Bushnel elite 3200 firefly and the salesman said it was a steal at 319.00.I bought the Buckmaster I would have bought the 3200 if it were 209.00 because it's a better scope but the store manager was not going to match the competition when I showed it advertised .I always check that store and hit a homerun on Remington nosler partitions for 9.99 and bought the entire shelf.

I've been on a streak of good deals lately..I also picked up a buckmaster 3x9x40 from another local store for $134. They had it tagged with the Prostaff price, then gave me another 10% off because they couldn't find the box. I put that on my 30-30, and the 4200 went on my 7mm Rem. If you look around you can always find a good deal somewhere.
