I have a buddy that is going to order a Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9x40 to top a Rem 700 SPS Youth in 7mm-08 Remington for his daughter. He wants to order as quickly as possible (upcoming birthday) so I was wondering if I could hear a couple of quick suggestions on mounts. Most likely leaning towards a two piece base/rings combo. What height ring provided clearance for you?

Many thanks!

I would think that the low Talley should work.

Ring Height Selection Guide:

Low Ring Ht for scopes up to 44 mm objective with standard barrel contour. Medium Ring Ht for scopes up to 50 mm objective with standard barrel contour. High Ring Ht for scopes with a 56 mm objective with standard barrel contour. Ex-High Ring Ht for large objective scopes with heavy contour barrels and single shot rifles.

I have these exact same rings on my Howa youth model and my Nikon Monarch 2-8x32 has a ton of clearance.

I'd use the Burris Signature's with the plastic inserts.

That be the ones that I use if they are the "low" mounts. The one-piece look looks slick.

Thanks! Passed along the recomendations for the low Talley Lightweights. I'd previously used the Talleys to mount a 3-9x40 Conquest on a 30'06 Kimber Montana and thought they worked well last season!

Good to see you echo my first impressions.

I hope that 4200 has enough eye relief for her!

You are really hung up on the .5 inchs of eye relief huh.  Wink  I don't think it will be a problem on a 7mm-08.  I have one on a 45-70 and have never had a problem.

That 1/2" is huge when you get smacked in the face with a scope a few times. For the average 160 guy 3" is plenty for an '08. For a small framed female shooting with a short LOP youth stock who knows.

It is all about how you mount the rifle to your shoulder.  90% of people don't do it right so they get smacked in the eye.
