Any real world difference between these two?  One negative that I see with the 2.5-10 is that its a few ounces heavier and a bit longer than the 3-9?

...and the 2.5-10 is more expensive.  If price isn't an issue and you aren't concerned with the additional weight and length, I would get the 2.5-10.

They are built to the same standard, but there are some obviou configuration differences.

3-9x40 is lighter and cheaper
2.5-10x42 is more expensive, but has appreciably larger FOV at low end and is availble with a  better low light reticle: Firefly.
