I have the 2.5 x 10 x 40 scope and I am concerned about something I have never encountered before with any other scope.
Above 6x the scope is out of focus out to about 80 yard. Under 6x it is sharp close up. I got one and sent it back and this one is the same, so I doubt it is broken. They both did this.
My 2.5 x 8 Leupold is razor sharp at 30 feet on 8x
I have spent considerable time with the reticle focus and this has little effect. I can make it slightly worse, but not any better.
If anyone has this scope please let me know if yours is the same way.
Is it likely the 4x zoom causing it?
The eye relief is nothing to write home about either. In fact the Leupold at 8x has more relief than the 4200 has on 2.5x
I chose this particular scope for a predator calling rifle where shots can vary greatly in range and I would really like to use more magification even under 100 yards.
The optics at distance are superior to my Leupold though, but between the critiical eye relief and the limitation of having to keep a 10x scope dialed down to 6x in the woods, I'm not getting why this is such a highly rated scope.
I would have bought the Leupold 3.5 x 10 x 40 , but I wanted to try this scope based on reviews and cost, but I'm feeling like I have made a mistake.

Forgot to add
When I sighted it in at 100 yards at the range, I ended up dialing down to 8x because the focus was not a sharp as 10x at 100 yards and the eye relief was just too critcal to not see a black halo without crawling up uncomfortably far on the stock and even the slighest movement back or fourth from the ocular caused problems.

I would call them, don't sound good to me. I have a 4200 and no problem like that....

This is the 2nd one with the same problem? Did you return the 1st one to the store and they gave you a replacement or did you send to Bushnell? If you went to store, maybe a bad lot. I have a 3-9X40, but I haven't been able to use it yet. Please let us know how it turns out!

The frist was returned to Bushnell with a note about the problem. They sent the second one from the factory. Not sure if they were the same lot or not. The replacement one was just off the boat as they told me they would ship it in a week when they got more. I really don't think it's broken---what would be the odds?
I think it is a design limitation unless more people respond they have same exact scope and can focus sharp on near objects at highest powers.

Does anyone have contact info for someone at Bushnell I could talk to be about my scope problem? The last person I got at "technical support" there was not even able to tell me the the outside ojective diameter----she said it was 1 inch so I could order the correct height rings. Me trying to explain to her the tube diameter vs. objective diameter was a lost cause.
Starting to wonder if I have been drinking the Kool-Aid the Bushys have been serving up.

This may sound strange, but are you older than 40 and do you wear eye glasses for reading? Some of my scopes require me to wear my reading glasses no matter as to what I do to the scope to adjust it and others do not. I cannot remember if my Elite 4200 requires me to do that, as I have not looked through it in a while. Many times, it is not necessarily a relationship to price. Try a pair of reading glasses and see what happens. 10 bucks or less at wally world. And yes, the higher the mag. the worse the problem.

By the way, if I am not correct, some of my scopes have a diopter adjusment (I may be wrong, I have too many scopes) and this corrects the problem on those.

sounds like a possible diopter problem to me - you should be able to adjust the eyepiece to fit your eye's focus. If this doesn't work, then you got a bad one.
the elite 4200's have been very good to me and this is not normal from that lineup.
good luck and let us know what you find out.

meant to add - focust the reticle on a blank background such as a clear sky. If this doesn't work, then you have a bad scope. But bad and 4200 don't really go together.

I don't wear reading glasses per say, however I do need to keep a book with very small type a little further away than I used to. I do have driving glasses as I can't see distance like I used to more noticible than the reading. My glasses are progess bifoculs and my next pair will not have the reading magnification as I never use it and it bothers me shooting if I tilt my head slightly. I go DAYS without even wearing them and don't even notice it.
I tried adjusting reticle for HOURS with both scopes with and without glasses. I can make it worse, but no better than the factory setting.
I justed looked out the window with the rifle. The eye relief is sooooo critical at 10x it is just about useless in a hunting situation and I had to crawl so far up the scope it would not be practical. It would be IMPOSSIBLE with a caliber that had moderate recoil (this is on a .17 Remington) Nothing looks razor sharp under 80-100 yard till I dial down to at least 6x. At 4x things things start approaching my Leupy set on 8x.
Both scope have had the sameexact traits. There is no diopter adjustment like on my binoculars.
Does anyone have any real experience with the Nikon 2.5 x 10? This thing is a joke and trying to talk with anyone at Bushnell about it has not so far been possible.
Is there anyone at Bushnell in the states that know these scopes?

edit...the reticle is razor sharp...it's the scope that won't focus down under 100 yards over 6x
Somebody said call Bushnell...I did and they sent me this one. Two wasted days at the range and ammo and no luck.
I want to talk to someone that will actually look through the scope before they send it a third time. Eveyone that looks through it sees what I see.

I had a B. Legend that just one day started to do that. I could not
get anything to focus over 4x, I sent it back to Bushnell and they sent it back with a note that said parallax
issues. It was about a 4 or 5 week turn around time. Looks great now works like it did when I got it.
