Well this came in yesterday from SWFA along with Tallley lightweight rings for a Tikka which I also bought yesterday.  I put them together last night then got to the range this morning and set up back at 600 to make sure I had the scope level, and finished tightening it down.  I have had the previous model with front focus and had liked it with one reservation the older model had 1/8 moa clicks however the new model with side focus has 1/4 moa clicks which I prefer. The knobs are easily resetable and about the ideal size for a hunting gun but still having the ability to use them as target knobs.  I dont bore sight so I started at 25 yds and polked a hole then made a rough correction.   It will actually focus closeer than that so this scope could even be used on a 17hmr etc to shoot squirrels or rabbits and still have lots of power for the longer shots.  Since the rifle was a 30-06 I zeroed it at 100 and reset the knobs. Nice glass but the sun was definately hittiing the lens so a lens shade would be well advised and I believe the older version came with a lens shade this did not.
Glass was clear and sharp and the side focus was easy to operate much easier than the front focus from behind the gun.  Once zeroed at 100 my balistic chart showed 1.75 moa up to 200 and I shot two and decided I needed one click to the right then reset that knob last shot dead in the middle of the X  Seemed like the opportune time to quit.  Anyway I like the scope and for hunting applications I can live with 4x on the low end especailly if I can get 16x on the high end.  My other scopes are typically  10x and lower but this rifle is a Christmas present for one of my boys who prefers higher power scopes so he can evaluate the rack on a deer. I would definately recommend this scope to anyone looking for a higher power variable for under $500.
Thanks Chris.

Thak you Wes! Great range report on a great scope!
Is the reticle of adequate thickness to be easy to pick up in deer cover?
Did you notice any deterioration of resolution at the top end of magnification?

Good review, thanks.  I was looking at this scope for a Tikka T3 I recently purchased.
