Today I went to buy my scope ... originally I wanted a Bushnell 4200 2.5-10x40 in either duplex or Firefly ...

I didnt like the very thick crosshairs of the Firefly so I passed ...

I compared the 4200 against a Conquest and there was no comparison .. the Zeiss was way "easier" to look through, clearer and I could see more detail ...

So I shelled out a little more money and picked the Zeiss ... got it mounted on Leupold STD rings on a 2 part base on my Rem 700 ...

At home I compared the scope against my Bushnell 3200 3-9x40 and to my surprise the bushnell held up good ... I cant see as much details in leafs of trees with the 3200 but the image looks just as bright and in general more pleasant.

The Zeiss has strong chromatic abberations (blue and purple halos against bright light) which makes the image look very unnatural ...  Not sure if thats intened to be that way and is maybe an advantage in the dark ? Is that even normal?

Anyways .. those are my impressions for anybody looking for a similar setup.

Every person has to find optics that works for them.  If the 4200 doesn't work for you and the Zeiss or what ever does then that is what works.

I really like the 4200 Elite scope.  I bought one last year and when comparing it side by side with my Zeiss Conquest (outside not in a shop) I was very impressed.  Overall, the Zeiss may have had a slight edge but under normal light conditions they were about the same.

Once it got dark the Zeiss was brighter.  However, both would allow a hunter to shoot well past legal shooting hours.

The 3200 is a good scope however, it has been my experience (which consists of looking through a relatives scope) that it'd not quite up there with the 4200 or Zeiss.  But if the 3200 works for you, even better you can save some cash.

As far as the chromatic abberations, in my scope its pretty minimal (seen it more in binoculars) if it is excessive or is effecting the image quality send it back.
