My brother purchased new a Savage in 7-08, and mounted a new Bushnell 3200 Elite on it ,he could not get the gun to pattern while using a lead sled, so he took it back to the gunsmith that mounted it for him, the gunsmith told him he believed the lenses were knocked loose from using the lead sled...claimes Bushnell does not install some kind of cushion on their lenses and did not recommend using the lead sled with the Bushnell scope.
My brother is going to send the scope to Bushnell to have them check it out.
I was just curious if anybody else had ran into this problem before or if it is even possible for the use of a lead sled to cause this to happen to the 3200 (if it's even the problem).
Thanx,

Sounds weird. Lead sled for sighting in a 7mm-08? Why? Did you actually have lead bags or were you just using it to hold the rifle? It is possible that the scope just took a dump, in which case the correct thing to do is via Bushnell customer service. The Elite 3200's are generally quite durable and the 7-08 generally rather tame. Shouldn't have been an issue IMO. Good luck. BTW, WELCOME to the OT.

Yes, If the rifle is not allowed to recoil to some extent, the recoil will be distributed through the stock and the scope mounted to it. I'm sure Bushnell will stand behind their product, just remember not to weight the "sled" so much that the rifle itself absorbs all the recoil.

I had a similar instance where I had my conquest break on my 338 win while using a lead sled. I don't know if it was related to the lead sled, but after that I stopped adding weight to the sled.
