Hey everybody...was directed to you guys for some scope advice.

I am looking for a basic do all scope (targets/occasional varmint) for my RRA varminter.  Most shooting will be at the range at 100 yards and occasional shooting out to 600yds.

I have been debating between a fixed scope (10x such as super sniper) but have decided I would like a variable scope (mid price) and then figure out what I want from there.

I am seriously looking at the bushnell 3200 5-15 tactical scope but have not been able to find much information on it.  So what do you guys think of it?  Is it a good scope for the money and will it be a good variable use scope?

Any other recommendations for a mid priced (would like to stay under $400) scope for the intended purposes?

Thanks,
JR

I think you can get a Bushnell Elite 4200 in your price range and it is much better scope than the 3200.  For range shooting, I would look at the Elite 4200 6-24x40AO model.

Another good scope that would work well for you is Sightron S2 4-16x42AO.  Or Sightron S2 4.5-14x42AO with target knobs.

Elite 3200 is a decent scope, but it is in need of a glass upgrade.

You have a nice Rifle in the RR Varminter. I have one and love it. I have also had good luck with the Burris in the FFII 4.5-14 B-plex Some say there are CS issues but in 6 years and 3 FFII I have never had to deal with CS. I do not like the 3-9, the glass in not nearly as good as the 4.5-14 and the SS is even better. The B-plex balistics are very good with the .223 55 gr. Good luch with whatver you choose.

I have a 4-16x40 Bushnell 4200 that I like very well. Koshkin has offered you several really good choices but as far as Bushnell goes the 4200 is so much better than the 3200.

Thanks for the replies and advice.

It looks like I will skip the 3200 and get something a little better.  The 4200 (6-24) is just a bit out of my budget at the moment.  I guess I will just have to up my budget :)

I may also look at just getting a fixed power for now.  What do you all think of a 10x fixed power for shooting at 50, 100, and 600 yards?  Would this be acceptable for all these ranges or would 10x be a bit much for 50 yards?  I know I said I was not looking for a fixed power, but I can get a nice fixed power for less money and it will suite my needs for now until I figure out a better budget, I guess I can make an exception.

Thanks again,
JR

50 - 600 yards .... no I would NOT get a fixed .  Especially since you're talking targets and varmits . You'll be sadly disappointed . Varmits can range from the size of your hand to coyote size . Plus the field of view and zoom boom . I advise against a fixed ... just my opinion .

It is settled.  I will just suck it up and get the 4200.

Thanks for all the replies.  I will update on how it works out when I get it and try it out.
