I'm still on the fence about the SS 5-20 package deal.  I was a dissapointed to see a lack of something similar to the group buy on the illuminated 5-20 (mount, caps, etc. plus a 20% or so discount).  I missed that, so I'm still considering the Black friday deal.  I could HOPE to sell the 6x with caps and shade for $300 once the black friday deals are gone and the mount for $100.  That puts me at $900 for the SS 5-20.  I could also just buy a Bushnell 2.5-16 tactical for $600-650.

I understand the Bushnell is a second plane reticle and the SS is a first focal plane.  I understand there is a difference in magnification.  The technical details of features, I believe I have a grasp on.  What I am not clear about is which I would actually prefer.  All my scopes are SFP, so I can't compare. The scope will likely be used for paper punching and coyote/fox/bobcat/squirrel hunting on an AR 18" stainless SPR build.  Hunting I use magnification range of 4-12x (I know the SS is minimum of 5x).  Punching paper with an AR I currently use a Bushnell 4200 6-24 on 24x, so I'm sure I would use the extra magnificaiton of the SS when at the range. The biggest negative I see is the extra 10 ounces or so I would have to carry around with an SS.

I know it will be a loaded question for his forum, but is the SS scope that much better than the Bushnell 6500 series?

If only SWFA had done an exact copy of the group buy package but with this scope.Sold

I'd go with the Vortex Viper PST, PST624F1M.

Wow, out of left field, and I like the idea.  So, I'll add a vortex PST to the mix of choices, but I'd still like to know if the SS is a $500 better scope than the PST or Bushnell 6500.

I own both scopes.  The 5-20 is head and shoulders over the 6500.

The Bushnell is a joke next to the SS. I have two of the SS scopes. They did offere a ciber monday deal on the scope alone at 20% off.  I for one am really excited to think I might be able to pick up some of the 6x scopes at a steal from those who dont want it. The 6x is one of my favorite scopes.

even at 20% that scope was still out of my budget. was planning on grabbing a 3-9 if they were on sale this weekend or a PST if they were not. i ran across the weaver tactical FFP mil/mil while checking reviews and at >700 i think i found my new scope. might be worth checking out if you are stil on the fence.

i was gonna go with the 6500, you can get them on SL for around 600, but bushnells CS blows. i'd go with the vortex over the bushy, but you can still get 20% off the black out 5-20 i think.

It very well could be, I'm to poor to buy anything currently so I didn't pay attention to the dates

Package deal is still alive until tonight.  I pulled the trigger on the SS package deal.  After feeling let down buy the BF package, I couldn't turn down all the accessories for only a $260 price discount.
I figure I can order a Bushnell next month if I decide this isn't as good as I'd like it, but I can't get this deal after today.  I'll look with my own eyes.  I have a 2.5-16 fine plex scope to compare against once the SS arrives.  After selling the other scope and stuff I may not use, the SS 5-20 hopefully will be about $900-950.  That's only $300 more than the Bushnell and $100 or so more than the PST.  The maximum magnification for the Bushnell wouldn't be as high as the SS for paper punching and the PST's minimum of 6x magnification is hard to swallow for hunting.  The 5-20 fits nicely in the middle.  The downside is weight.  I hope I like it as much as all the hype it's been given.  And, if the 6x doesn't sell well, my son just got a great new optic to wear on his 243, and I'll sell his Bushnell 2.5-10 firefly.  That reticle is a bit thick to look at through a 243.
I would have loved to get in just once on the illuminated 5-20 group buy (if you're still listening SWFACall).  It was about as perfect a deal as I could have imagined for what i'm looking for.  But, I stumbled accross these scopes too late.

I have been considering a tactical target long range scope.  I thought bang for buck budget scope had me thinking Bushnell 6500, or maybe Conquest 6.5-20.  well then after a lot of reading Sightron siii seems to be the best choice.  Maybe I should put the SS 5-20 in that running my self

After receiving the 5-20 and comparing it with the glass on my 2.5-16 plex reticle Bushnell 6500, I am glad I ordered the 5-20 on the Black Friday deal.  I really didn't think a scope could be worth $1300 when I can get a Bushnell 2.5-16 with target nobs for about half of that.  It would be difficult to pay the full $1300 now without extras without having seen one.  The other thing I've realized is the extra weight, maginification, length, etc. of the SS 5-20 makes it a different purpose scope than the Bushnell 2.5-16.  I purchased for a long range preditor hunting (out to 400 yards) and paper puncher (out to 200 yards).  I still want another scope, so I'm still looking for another deal.  The SS 5-20 is a bit over kill for both.
But, for the sake of comparison, I'll give some thoughts after the purchase as it relates to the original comparison I posed.  In worth to ME now that I've seen the bonus items, the Black Friday made it somewhere between $400-$500 more attractive than it is now.  That made it at best $800 and at most $900 in perceived out of pocket to me for the SS 5-20 scope on Black Friday.  So, the question to me will finally rest on is the glass and reticle of the SS 5-20 at least $200-300 better than the Bushnell.  IMO the reticle alone is.

So the question in your situation would be, is it worth $500-$600 more than the Bushnell?  You should definately at least consider the SS 5-20, but that's a tough call.  I spent well more than I wanted, but I'm glad I did.  It's a scope that I only need one with a QD mount to switch between rifles that I want to shoot paper.  I would love for SWFA to come out with a 4-16 with adjustable parallax, lighter weight, and an illuminated mil-quad reticle priced under $1k (then add a group buy or holiday sale).  That would be a closer comparison, and would make it very difficult to even consider the Bushnell.

considering bushnells CS, yes def worth the extra $$. and the glass destroys the 6500, and the reticle is bad ass, super easy to shoot beyond 1k
