So I go out and buy a bushmaster varminter gun, now I need a scope, not being a scope person at all what is the best one to put on in the price range around 400.00 give or take some? I will be using it for p-dog hunting and target. from 200-400 yrds , I have read the nikon 5.5x16.5x44 in a really good scope for the money? thanks for any help .

that would probably be perfect, I always use the rule, to keep all my scopes under 20x for anyting, although if I decide to start shooting quarters at 500yds I will make an exception.
congrats on the new rifle, and welcome to optics talk. |

I'm the only one that knows anything around here. Don't ask me any questions though because i don't know anything

Yes I love Leo's (he said putting his arms over his head to avoid the wrath of the gang of five) It is a Harris "tilt" and simply attaches to the michaels stud that will come with your gun. When you get your gun, clean the match trigger with a good air solvent cleaner, then spray, especially the let off hooks, with a Moly allowing it to build up several times. These have very good target triggers as AR's go and will double on you. The stock a Mag-Pul really makes my day however, and while I shoot handloads the gun will shoot Blackhills 52 gr, under an inch all day, but really shines with 69 SMKs. You will enjoy this gun.

Depends on your use-- if you like to shoot sitting with your back against a tree or a pickup -- get the extended leg , get the bmr if from a bench, the one above is the next longest I think, I use 4 different ones, depending on what is going on that day.

What kind of rings and bases do you have the Leo mounted on? |

Bushmaster risers with Leo low 30 mm. The magpul is adjusted to high for prone, possible to mount much lower and drop the magpul not using the risers, depends on what one needs that day. This also allows the swith to an NXS and only needing to adjust the magpul without a change out in rings, bases etc. About the same cost but much easier. Armalite eagle AR10

Dale, is that bottom one a .308? Nice sticks and choice optics. How far are you reaching out with those 30mm tubes?

I'm quessing referencing total clicks. I never run Leos past 20 MOA or about a full turn as the peripheral image starts to distort. With the hold over already build in the NXS , bottom reticle plus 20 moa or a turn is about 1000 yds. without getting out of the 70% sweet spot. Bottom is 308 and testing A-Max 155s with high bc |

I'm sure you'll really like the Nikon-- yes the magpuls are worth it, increase length of pull 2 " and allow for variations in scope/check weld without going thru a lot of different height rings combinations, easy to put on and well built.

from what I have read, the s series is the best, i got the LM model 9-13 inch, notches on the leg and swivel base, but haven't used it yet. Edited by bigbird1 |

Very Cool set up Dale, question how come you Leo says NF in big letters on the side , just to confuse the folks at the range? What cal. 223 308 ?

good one-- no I have a varmit bushmaster with a 20 leo (if you go back a couple of pages) in 223 a NF on an eagle 308 and USO sn3 on AR10T (not shown). I'm not sure what's confusing some of the people at the range-- but it's enough to make me not use them.
