Yeah I don't know about I pulled this straight from their web site.

"The Elite 3200 riflescopes feature a rugged, one-piece aluminum tube. And, like the 4200, this scope is tested to rigorous standards – recoil tested to 1,000 rounds of a .375 H&H magnum. The 3200 offers everything the avid hunter requires."

And the 4200's have 10,000 rounds it says.

He may be right, I know I have two life time guaranteed sump pumps that burnded up within a week of each other and the newly acquired lifetime guaranteed sump pump of a different brand got the float switch stuck and would have burned up had I not caught it in time.  I think if he has a pile of them he better send them back but  some things do kill scopes aparently the type of recoil of an air gun is very damaging to some.   I had a run of bad luck with Burris at one point with three bad ones right after the other all of different models but I know they build some solid scopes.  Could be he got a group of bad 3200s and they all came back to him that does tend to cause a dealer problems.

Better yet, does he say there is no need to lap in rings? Are there large gaps between the top ring and the bottom ring and are those gaps equal?

Just because he is the only gunsmith in the area doesnt mean he knows what he's doing there are a lot that really do not.  It does seem quite odd that a 3200 wouldnt take the recoil of a 30-06 but to get a couple of bad scopes of any brand is realistically possible.

Elite 3200 scopes have a reputation for being pretty durable.

As for the competence of the gunsmith, he may very well be a good gunsmith and know a lot about guns.  That does not necessarily mean that he has the same level of expertise with scopes.  I know a gunsmith who seem very capable with things mechanical, but absolutely can't fathom why anyone would pay more than a hundred bucks for a scope.
It happens.

Everyone deserves an opinion.  Everyone deserves respect.  But not everyone's opinion deserves respect.

I have a couple 3200 2x7's on 12 ga slug guns and a 3x9 on a T/C Black Diamond-- now failures- no issues ...I had the same 3x9 on a 338 win Mag for a season and it has held up just fine ...30-06 should be a breeze

My friend and ranch owner who owns a 30-06 bolt has a china made mildot bushnell banner varieable AO scope on his rig that has been holding up ever since 2003 and he hunts a lot using military ammo. I myself would not put that scope on anything but a .22lr but if that holds up, i would bet the 3200 would do even better unless it was a fake. Big Grin
