I've got a major question I need answered ASAP. I have a custom Remington 700 LA .30-06, match
barrel, jewel trigger, receiver & bolt blueprinted, very nice laminated wood stock with pillar & glass
bedding, and barrel is free floated. I have a Warne 20 MOA picatinny scope mount, and a new IOR
10x56mm scope to mount to it. I would like the Badger Max 50 scope rings, but believe they will be
too high. So the other set of rings I am looking at are the Burris XTR med. Would they hold up to the
punishment of the .30-06?

Also purchased a pair of the IOR rings, JUNK, did not like them at all, and would not fit the scope
properly. Even tried another 30mm scope on them and it also did not fit right. I know the military
uses max alloy rings from badger, so want to know will the Burris XTR rings work.

burris XTR rings are mega crap, go with TPS it kicks the crap out of burris for only a touch more, you will need medium.

Do they make a 6 screw model? They look of better quality than the burris. Thanks

First off we need to clear one major misconception  -  30-06 and .308 are the norm  or average recoil.

Now when I talked to Badger about buying max 50 rings for my .308 PSS Rem sniper rifle they told my not to buy the max 50 to buy their standard medium rings reason being that the length of the max 50 rings often limits ones ability to adjust scope placement front to back to obtain correct eye relief. I mounted a Leupold 8.5-25x50 using medium rings on the  plus 20 moa Badger base.  So I think medium high would work - call SWFA  or Badger Ordnance in Kansas City and ask.

nope, I wish they did, as far as strength goes, i know someone that has used them on a .50 cal barret rifle for years without any loss of zero. if it's looks you want, I don't know what to tell you.

Don't care about looks, went with the TPS ones. With their tight tolerances I believe these were the
best bang for the buck. Was a little hesitant about paying close to two hundred for rings. Thanks

You will not be disappointed, make sure you follow the instructions enclosed re: tightening the side with the witness marks first.  I also bought the IOR rings a couple years back and was amazed at how cheesy the cap screws looked....more like what I would have expected from Tasco....unfortunate given the high quality of their optics....bought a set of Mauser bases as well and was equally disappointed (but I only paid $10 for them...so I kept them and I hope to use them on a Rem 798 if they'll work).

I have a set of XTRs on my .338rum topped with a SS10X42. I also have a set of medium XTRs on my .308 topped with a XOTIC and I personally have had very good results with them, they are not steel so if that is what you want  I would look at Badger, Seekins, DSA or TPS.

What a great hobby!

Very nice rifles...:) I to have had a SS 10x42 scope. I sold it on E-bay about a month ago. It's a good scope for the
money. Not great, but a good scope at the price. I like the IOR optics, Zeiss, and Nikon. However I do have a Leapers
3-9x44 on my .17 HMR that has held up surisingly well.

Thanks for the info about the XTR rings. My .30-06 is HEAVY and was thinking on cutting down on the weight a little by
using the XTR's I may still get a set just tohave in case. And I know the 6 screw model rings have alot more holding
power than the regular 2-4 screw ones.
