Anyone using one of these beasts? I'm seriously thinking about buying one but have not been able to find one within a 50 mile radius to look at. I know it's big, and relatively heavy, I worked the FNH 2015 match and saw the one Bruce Piatt was using on his .308.

I'd really like to know what the eye box is like and how the eye relief is, thoughts on the quality of the glass would be appreciated too. It will go on an LR-308 that I use for Heavy Metal 3gunning.

Thanks!

I recently purchased one.  I installed it in a QD ADM 20 MOA mount with forward extension.  So far I have zero'd it and used it for testing handloads in my LWRC 5.56.  The eyebox is easy to get behind with generous eye relief and I am so far impressed with the optical quality which seems to be close to my SWFA HD 3-9x and at least the equal of my Vari-X III Leupolds, although I have not done actual side by side comparisons yet or used it beyond 100 yards.  So far I am very pleased with the scope with the next tasks being to check the turret tracking and using the illuminated reticle on 1.5x at ranges between 25 and 100 yards to see if it will work for me with both eyes open.  It was on my list of wants since it first became available and I waited until prices became more competetive.  Shop around, do the SWFA 110% price match and you should be under $800 shipped.

Thanks Rainman, I was hoping you would chime in, I read in another post here that you had picked one up.

I'm shopping around, I called SWFA when I got home, I was going to see what their best deal would be but I just missed them.  I'm 99.99% that I'll go with one of these, I watched Bruce Piatt run some stages where the targets were all within 50 yards and he didn't miss a beat.  But then again, I'm no Bruce Piatt.

I'm hoping the 1.5 bottom end will allow me to use it both eyes open out to 100 yards rather than having to add a compact red dot on an offset ring or rail mount.  No idea if that is what Piatt is doing but I'm going to be playing with mine to see if it works for my eyes which are still corrected to 20/20.  Even though I'm an old guy I can still use open pistol and revolver sights thanks to no line bifocals so I'm hopeful about the Burris 1.5 bottom end.  The scope looks big with the 34mm tube and is certainly heavier than most sporting scopes but with the mount I'm using the balance of the rifle is centered over the magwell and it points and swings well.  If you get one let us know your impressions.  I've had quite a few Burris scopes all with satisfactory to very good experiences and I expect the turrets will track spot on even though I have not tested them yet.  I am also considering a Burris Veracity 2-10x as the permanent optic for my Steyr Pro Hunter .280 and anticipate the optical quality will be similiar to the XTR scopes.

Piatt was only using using the scope, he didn't have a secondary sight.  I set my Vortex 1-4 to approximately 1.5 to get a feel for what it would be like, it's a little weird but I don't think it will bother me on a stage.  I'm an old guy (59) too but my eyes are holding up pretty well.  I just fired off a price matching request to SWFA (thanks for reminding me about that!) so when that come back I'll go ahead and order it.

What did you use for a mount.

never mind I just re-read your first post, it's an ADM.  Thanks!

American Defense AD-RECON 34mm #ADRECON20MOA1, a 20 MOA forward mount with a SWFA price match which netted me free shipping plus 10% of the SWFA's shipping charge.  The scope is adjusted at the factory for a 20 MOA mount so I pulled the upper and bore sighted at 100 yards and it took about 3 shots to zero.  The reticle marks are set up for the 62 grain NATO round from an M4 14.5" barrel.  My LWRC is 16.1" so POI at various ranges should still be close.  I will also try it on my Ruger SR 556C which has a 14.5" barrel with permanent flash hider to see what the differences are.  I think you will like the scope. even though 1.5x may not be as quick on short range targets as 1x.  My next purchase will be an MGM switch view lever.

I found a very good deal on a LNIB with an AD Scout mount over on arfcom, it should be here in a couple of days.  I'll let you know what I think.

My 1.5-8x28 arrived yesterday and, so far, I'm pretty impressed.  I put it on a rifle just to get a feel for what it was like to look through, it seems to be quite clear with decent eye relief and eye box.  The illumination on the reticle is the brightest I've seen on a scope, it's WAY brighter than my Vortex PST 1-4's.

Can't wait to see what it's like at the range.
