For lack of anything else to do on a rainy weekend.  I decided to pull out my rifles and do some compairsons of their optics.  What I found kind of suprised me.  I looked through a

1.  Leupold 2.5-8 VXIIIx36

2.  Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14x42

3. Burris Signature Select 3-12x44

4. Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40

I found that the Zeiss seemed to have better light gathering than all of the others regardless of magnification. It was even brighter than my Signature Select , Which suprised me.  I also noticed that the image the Zeiss gave me was more detailed.  For some reason the Burris SS seemed a little fuzzy.  I was looking at images about 88 yards away.  I was under the impression that the Burris Signature scopes should rival the Zeiss Conquest scopes, but now I am wondering .  I can say that the Signature did have better glass than the Leupold and the FFII; which I fully expected;  and it had better light gathering ability....to my eyes anyway.  It had edge to edge sharpness consistency that the other two did not have.  The image was  a little less sharp over all than the Zeiss scope though.  Which has me wondering about my expectations of the Signature Select line.  This is my first SS scope and I had actually thought of selling the Zeiss and putting a 4-16 on that particular rifle  (22-250), but now I wonder if another Burris Signature Select scope wold be the right choice?

Any thoughts on this subject are appreciated......

Well, if you compare apples to apples a Burris Signature Select 4-16X44 will set you back somewhere between $430 and $500 depending on the the particular model.  Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44 will set you back somewhere between $690 and $800 dependingon the particular model.

Zeiss does have beter glass, but it also costs more.  Conquest 3-9x40 is an awesome deal, but it is also more expensive than a Burris of comparable size and magnification (3-10x40): $450 for Zeiss vs $380 for Burris.

True enough.  I have just always considered the SS just as good as a Zeiss.  First time I have done side by side comparisons.  Still think I will put the SS on my Tika......  Do you think the Black Diamond or Euro Diamond are more comprable to the Zeiss?

thanks

Pentax makes good glass.  It is not as good as Ziess.  Burris has changed ownership and  is now a part of Beretta.  They are not using much Pentax glass now.  I never did think that Pentax as an equal to Zeiss.

the Conqueest has better glass than the Signature Select but the like Koshkin said the Conquest is priced substantialy higher.

Burris discountinued the 3-9x40 signature select some time ago but it can still be found in alot of places brand new for $300

it is a very nice scope and very well made. Between the signature Select and the conquest I feel that the conquest is not worth

the price difference, at the price of the conquest I would rather go with a Khales,Meostar,IOR scope for the same money.

The Eurodiamond feels like looking through a aquarium and the one i have tested had serous parallax problems as well.

I would never buy a new burris instead of and old second hand Zeiss.

When you compare the scopes you should compare FOV as well.

I have never owned the conquest series but I have a number of European produced Zeiss and the FOV is much bigger than the Asian/american scopes normally.
