I have a 3-9x40 burris fullfield II with ballistic plex on my 30/06 and am wanting to put on a higher powered scope to be able to see good out to 500 yards. With the scope i have now it is difficult to see deer well out past 200 yards on highest power. I was considering getting another burris fullfield II either the 4.5-14-42 blastic plex or the 6.5-20-50 Ballistic Mil-Dot. Would the 4.5-14-42 be powerful enough or should i get the other? Also what is better about the Ballistic Mil-Dot?

The idea behind the mil-dot is that is dot represents a given distance for your rifle. Once you determine what those values are........ you don't have to guess how far to hold over if you have the distance calculated...... Something to consider is buying better quality class.... some say you won't need higher mag if your class is high quality.

By staying with a high end power of 10 or possibly 12 you can increase power and not go to AO. If the AO doesn't bother you on a hunting rifle (some it doesn't and some it does) than I would suggest the 4.5x14 for the up to 500yd shots you mention. For scope choice I recommend a little higher lens quality, conquest - 4200 elite - monarch will all do this...
