i'm about to purchase a new scope for my remington 700 .270...i only deer hunt a couple times a year, so i dont need anything top of the line, but i still want some decent quality...i was leaning towards the Leupold VX I 3-9 x 40 or Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40...but i've been reading some good things about the Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40...how would you guys rate the Burris the the VX 1 and Buckmaster??? thanks

FFII or the Buckmaster.

The VXI is a bust, in my opinion.

Good shooting!!

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

I have to agree with Cheaptrick.  Either the Burris Fullfield or the Nikon are better scopes than the Leupold VXI.  The VXI is a lower end Leupold scope that does not compete with the others and in my opinion your just paying for a name with less performance.

Since you mentioned the FullField, you might also want to check out the Pentax line. Pentax scopes are made by Burris and are basically the same scopes and sometimes you can save a little cash depending what is on sale at the time.

Also welcome to the forums.

In the not to expensive area the 6x42 Nikon Monarch is my favorite but after that I night try a Burris FFII. Under no circumstance do you want to buy the 3-9 burris Short Mag it has serious problems with critical eye relief. I am not really a Burris fan because I have had problems with two out of three Burris scopes - the 1x Burris I have works well but my experience with the other two has made me a little hesitant. If you cant spend this much you might consider a 6x Weaver. The weaver grand slam scopes are nice but a little more. The 6x42 Monarch is a superb scope. The 6x40 Burris FFII  is 216.95 and would probably be a safe choice but the Nikon Monarch is great glass.  If you have to have a variable the FFII  might be ok but I would probably go to the Nikon.

I would pick the Burris Fullfield II over the Buckmaster or VX I.
