Does anyone know how the Burris FFII Ballistic plex would work on a 45/70 Handi Rifle if you sighted in the scope at 100 yards? I would love to have an idea how it would work before I start sighting it in. Burris has approximations for a number of calibers on their website but does not have one for the 45/70.

Find the drop in inches and then compare it to the drop in inches for the scope given under the technical data for the ball plex reticle. That is what I do, since every gun and round is different.
http://www.burrisoptics.com/reticles.html Look at the technical section and then compare your ballistics. Hope that helps. |

Note balistic reticles only work for known hold over points at the highest power of the scope. Horniday 325gr Lever Revolution balistics

The bigest problem answering this question is that there are a lot of different bullets that will chamber in a 45-70 everything from a flat nose lead 405 grain solid to some very nice jacketed bullets in a large variety of weights and pushed at tremendously different velocities. I have eaven loaded some with 70 grains tripple 7 blackpowder substitute, note grains for black powder is a volume measurement where with smokeless powder grains refers to weight the difference can cause you much trouble.
Guns and Ammo web site has info on ammo balistics.

I plan on shooting the Remington 300 Grain Bullets or the Hornady Leverevolution! I was hoping to be able to set the gun dead on at 100 Yards and use the Ballistic plex to shoot out to about 250 similar to the Nikon BDC reticle.

It would be, but I already have a Burris FF II at home and thought it might work well on my 45/70.
