I'm in the midst of building a new AR - DSA flat top, 16" mid-length gas WOA barrel, YMT diamond series FF forearm, RRA trigger, ACE skeleton stock.

I've followed the aimpoint versus EOTech discussion here and on AR15.com.

What I have not seen is the Burris FastFireII (4 MOA reddot) with their Tactical Tripler (3x scope) mentioned as an alternative.

The Burris set up is definately a lower price point - is it that much lower grade, or just not in favor among the AR community?

anyone running the fast fire plus tripler? any reason not to go fastfire instead of aimpoint/eotech?

Please weigh in.

thanks

As is my usual response, I'd say, "It depends."

I haven't used the fastfire but have used several reflex sites.  I don't think a Burris fastfire vs. Aimpoint vs. Eotech is an "apples-to-apples" comparison.
I have Aimpoint, Eotech, Vortex Strikefire, and Burris Extreme Tactical Speeddot - each has a different function, each does something very well (and usually a few other things "pretty good."

I'd say the main advantage of the fastfire (and not having used it, this is a guess) is field of view and weight.  I have used the Doctor which is similar to the fastfire and liked that where weight was a big usse.

If weight  isn't an issue, I'd consider something else; I'm sure the fastfire is a fine optic, but it is small and, if going on a rifle, kinda fragile.

If you can give a little more detail around what is needed and for what purpose and use, we can provide more detailsed recommendations.

basic purpose is three-gun type matches - our recent COF had IDPA/zombie targets at 21 feet, bowling pins / clay pigeons at 50 yards, and steel plates at 100 yards.

I'd like the 3x magnification for the longer shots (my old eyes), and like the wide field red dot for the close in work.   Aimpoint + 3x flip to side magnifier seems to be the real competition, but at much higher cost.

I won't be in combat, this is not a patrol rifle, so I'm not too worried about milspec durability - I did consider the fast fire mount with the metal protective ears, just in case.

I don't do 3-gun, so someone else will have to help there.

You might also consider a 1-4, like the Trijicon

Correct,  Welcome.
If you want to run BUIS an Aimpoint Comp M4s is the ticket but you still have to turn it on.  EOTEch push button untill it gets where you want.  ACOG its already to go when you pick it up.  I really like the TA442 and find that it is quite accurate at 200 to 300 yds with the 1.5x.
I'm not a big fan of flip flop 3x magnifiers If I need something in that range a 3.5x or 4x Trijicon is a better tool.

I can't STAND the flip open magnifiers, just go right into the mag red dot.  The flip mags make the AR look like a modded super soaker
