What game management unit was this in?  I have been twice and have not seen an elk except for the one that I nearly hit at 65MPH on 285 outside of Buena Vista.

Billy... I figured that comment would come around sooner or later.... It's kinda like a monster whitetail in Florida is different than a Monster in Illinois.... but considering the fact that we were in Colorado. That was a great bull. My Bull was not even that big and I was tickled PINK with him. Yes sir! I do want to hunt Arizona, New Mexico, Idaho and wherever I can for Elk but the size of the bull I"m after will always be a reflection of the size of the game available.... That Colorado hunt was as memorable of a hunt as I've ever been on in my life. we saw numerous bulls every day and the friendship, landscapes and storys where as good as I can possibly imagine!

please don't mis understand. If you have some insane property in Arizona that we need to hunt.... let me know!

thanks man!!!! I actually got to hunt some of those eastern NC whitetails a while back. just west of the OBX. I was docked in Manteo at Pirates Cove. Fun hunting.... but size wasn't part of the equation.... Got one hell of an 11 point while I was up there.... the 1 on the right side was about 6 inches and the 1 on the left side was just a bit longer.... LOL>.. hope you get my humor...

Hey!  We have some of those in MT too!

Oh wait ...  I mean ... there's no good elk hunting left in MT, the wolves ate them all.  Better try somewhere else ... tell you friends.

Wink

Robert,  trophies are really in the eye of the beholder.  I'd guess that bull at 260-270 B&C.  That is a respectable bull, and looks like that hunter liked him just fine.

Watching elk hunting gives me cabin fever ... bad!

No doubt. the trophy is all about the location and the hunter.... That bull was 290. He was a really big bodied bull. His fronts were Great but a little short up top. I hunted 21 days in Montana and never got a reasonable look at a shooter bull. and when I say shooter... I am not meaning a big bull.... I hunted so hard and it was terrible.... The wolves have really crushed the elk population in many places. I was hunting the front near valier,,,,, sheep Creek.

I had a blast in Colorado. tons of bulls. great times.... my bull was only like 200.... I din't care at all... I was STOKED with him.

anyway. thanks for the shout...
