It appears that my list of scopes for my Tikka Tactical is getting smaller.

I want LONG range clarity and crispness of image, decent ruggedness (though I'll be treating it like a safe queen and probably never firing it other than in good weather from a bench).

Shooting up to 1000 yards.

Most important is OPTICAL clarity, as little edge-to-edge unsharpness as possible, decent light gathering (not huge here) and above all OPTICAL CLARITY and contrast.

Mildot is ok, but I'll probably be using a laser rangefinder or knowing my range anyways.

I have a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40, and a Burris Fullfield 2 and Signature scope in 3-9x40.  Have had the Nikon Tactical as well, and a 3rd Gen Springfield Armory, as well as a Super Sniper 10x  - have also had cheaper scopes (Mueller, BSA, Barska, etc.)

For around $700 or a little less I can get a Burris Black Diamond 30mm tubed scope, 8-32x50.  Have heard great things about them.

For about $650 I can get a Zeiss conquest 1" tube scope, z-plex reticle, 6.5-20x

Any other suggestions for me for my needs?

Again, it HAS to have the best (or at least close enough for the money) optical clarity.

Hmmmmmmmmm - so, who makes the glass and does the coatings on these?  I have never heard of XOTIC.

56mm Objective?  WOW - that would seriously reduce my ability to mount it low (like I prefer).

Nice price, though.

Tell me more :)

I dont have any advice for you, but a similar question with the same brands.  I just bought a Tikka T3 300 WSM and am considering Zeiss and Burris.  I am hunting mostly whitetail, and the two places I routinely buy equipment from diff in their opinions.  One says dont buy a Burris (any model) and pushes Zeiss Conquests.  The other one swears by Burris.  Right now, I am leaning toward the Burris because of the rangefinding capability.

I would go with the Zeiss Conquest over the Burris Black Diamond. They are both good scopes though, and you really cannot go wrong with either one.

I ended up with a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44 scope for the .308 Tikka, and I just bought a .223 Tikka Lite that I got a 6.5-20x44 Nikon Monarch scope for with fineplex reticle.  I love the Zeiss for clarity and optics, though the lack of MOA adjustment and lack of mildot reticle bugged me.  The Nikon, well, I used to have a Nikon Tactical and thought the optics were very nice.  Hopefully the Monarch will be nice for varmint and long range target shooting.

Now, if only those Super Sniper variables were available, I would have just bought a couple of them . . . . HINT HINT!

Nice choice greywolf, so did you end up with the Varmint or Tactical? What about rings & bases?

I got the .308 Varmint, Synthetic Stock, Stainless steel - I have Leupold base and rings (QRWs)

The .223 is the Lite, with blued barrel and receiver.

And I may have just bought a Springfield Armory 3rd Gen 4-14x56 illuminated reticle BDC scope as well - yeah, it has a spotty rep, but the price was right and if it works then great - if not, I Ebay it and make some money

Gots to get my fundage together for my Super Sniper variable (or hell, maybe I'll buy an XOTIC!)
