I was wondering if anyone has experience with this scope? Also, would it be a smart buy for $455 new? This will be going on a AR-15 .223 Heavy barrel shooting 70 to 80 grain match bullets.

I have had very good success with Burris scopes, That seems like a very good price.

I think the mid to upper Burris lines are the best glass value out there for the price.
Helo18 has the 3X12 and wrote a good review a few months ago. see below
You may be overscoping with the 6-24 The double recoil of a simi-auto is harder on scopes than a bolt gun. Lower power give wider field of view and will speed your moving or follow up shots.

Guess I should do an update to that thread huh, 3tens?

You should look to see if for the price you quoted if it is the new one with stormcoat, or the older version with out it.  Either way, it is probably a good deal.  You will have a rugged scope that will last and has good glass.  Personally for an AR-15 I would want a lower power scope for faster shots.

I get 70% off because I work at a retailer. So I would get the new 6-24x50 xtr and xtr extra high rings for only $470. The AR-15 I want to mount it on has a 20" heavy barrel. I am basically going to use it for target and longer range coyote/prairie dog hunting.  I have a lightweight AR-15-M4 profile barrel with a 3-9 power scope for 0-200yd hunting.

For what you will be using it for, I think it would be a good scope.  Only time you might not like the mag range is if a coyote shows up close.  Then the 6x might be too high at say under 100 yards.  The 24x will be nice for paper punching at longer ranges, or for small dogs at long range.  Other than that, the price is great.  I like the storm coat on my 3-12.  I have mine mounted on my Rem 700 VSF 22-250 and love that set up.  The scope is heavy, but rugged.  Should handle any recoil.

$470. with rings is substantially below our cost and no one buys Burris for less than what we do.  If your employer can sell it to you for 70% off then that means they are making more than 70% which does not happen in this industry, we get excited if we are able to make 20%.

How many can you buy?  I'll give you $600. for every scope and set of rings you can get me.

I get the deal directly through burris. I get one scope, one mount, and one set of rings each year for 70% off. I wish I could buy more. Thanks for all your comments, I bought the scope and it should be arriving in a month or so.

The only thing that is keeping me from buying one is the fact that it has full MOA elevation adjustments. I like 1/2 MOA turrets but usually end up getting optics with 1/4. My unit weapons have 1MOA, 1/2 MOA with the newest weapons, and 1/4 MOA turrets. If I had my choice they'd all be half since it's fast and full MOA turrets I think are too limiting when you have a half MOA weapon.

Hello, I wonder what is the minimal distance side focus?

I've heard employees of one of the big retailers say similar about a one a year 70% discount on a Burris if they did a certain level of sales I believe - kind of like a performance bonus and way below cost.
That scope would be suited more for prairie dogs than for coyotes but the 1moa adjustments would still be too rough.
