Anybody tried this scope for mid-range tactical 308s?

I've had some bad experience with several of Burris scopes however I do like their pistol scopes.  Quite frankly I dont think you need that low end power range with  a .308 as much as you need something with a tad more power for longer range like a Super Sniper 3-9x42 which definately has far better glass, is first focal plane and has tenth mil clicks which make it all around the better choice for a .308.  If you really need close up and fast with a .308 you should be looking at the low power Trijicon compact ACOG I use one of those with a TA442 amber triangle 1.5x on an M1a  and working off the point of the triangle is is quite satisfactory out to about 400 yds with a 250 yd zero from 0 to 400 you should be in the torso past that you need a little hold over so its a better combat optic.  Are you LE or MIL?

I am afraid we disagree on this a little, Wes.  1.5-6x40 is a nice power range and XTR is a nice scope intended for 308 rifles.  Have you had a chance to look at the 1.5-6x40 XTR?

Last time I looked at it, I thought the glass was very good as was the build quality.  I would have preferred it with lower knobs and with the reticle calibrated for 168gr or 175gr, but it is still a very nice scope with a well designed holdover reticle.

I currently have a 10xSS on my bolt .308 and love it.  However....what ever I choose will be going on an m1a.  I am considering the variable SS as well as the new 6xSS but just can't seem to make up my mind and pull the trigger.  Just thought the hold overs on the burris would be a nice option as well since I only shoot 168gr through the m1a.  I just about pulled the trigger on one of the springfield 6x40s calibrated out to 700meters for the 308 168gr but decided against it after reading some unhappy reviews with the druability of the scope.  I guess the only reason I was possibly looking for something other than the mildot of the SS is for quick acquisition.

I have several of the Hawke 1.5-6x44 Eclipse 30mm with the Illuminated L4 Dot that I got from SWFA. I like them a lot and have used them at the range and for hunting. The nice thing about the L4 is that it looks like the image on the SWFA site, not the Hawke site.

The space around the dot before the lines start really helps with aiming at longer distances since the lines don't block the target at all.

I'm sure you know this already but just because the scope is calibrated for a bullet doesn't mean it will be true to your gun.  Holdovers are notoriously off and I think you'd be better with the variable SS and get some Kenton industry speed dials made for your SS.  It would make a killer combo on a M1A
