Has 2 more that fired on second try, both showed light pin dimples from 1st try.

Do you have issues with CCI primers?  I started with them because of availability more than anything.  But I'm happy and I seem to have good consistant repeatability and accuracy with them.

I usually stick with a know good thing...so I haven't found a reason to stop using them.

Good info!  Thanks for sharing!!!
The light primer strikes a results of the free floating firing pin in AR's. (firing pin is making contact on closing). You should get a firing pin depth gauge from Brownells and correct this, with a shorter one or what ever the gauge indicates. This condition is cured in Aramlites 10 by using a spring loaded firing pin an improvement that should be made in 15's. By hardness primers from hardest down are: Remington,Win.CCI,Fed. Don't take my word for it run a poll at SH or Brian enos. This condition becomes more critical when using a adjustable gas block, lightened carrier and springs, and recoil buffers. Do not use misfire or dimpled primers for serious carry or match use as a second occurance on an already sensitive primer may cause an AD with bad results.

Nice gun! is it predrilled for a swivel for bipod mounting? Out to 500 yds, the difference in percentage of hits using 40-50 gr pills at 3200 to 3400 fps is just as high as using 69 gr. pills at 2600 to 2800 fps. The bc is only about .1 difference, which is nothing in the bullet world.

Does it have a Wylde chamber? If so this will affect your loads and seating depth. also different  ar will show quite a bit of differences between 68, and 69, gr. bullets depending on the ogive. Some prefer secant- some tangent.

Nice Bud, it looks real nice.  Excellent

A couple of other sites I like to use for AR parts are Del-ton and Rainier Arms.  Rainier sells some higher end stuff which is nice for some projects.

Another bullet to test is hornady 75 grain hpbt match.  My 1-7" really likes them.  I use Win brass, 24.5 Varget and CCI primers.  I have shot a few 5 shot groups in the .4 range at 100 yards.

Best part about those bullets, they are about $50 cheaper for 600 than for 500 77 grain SMKs.  In my gun, they shoot just as good.  A 1-8 should shoot the 75s good as well.
Lifetime warranty and excellent customer service don't mean a thing when your gun fails during a zombie attack.

Bud it looks terrific, I bet you had a great time putting it together. Sometimes the build is more fun than the actual shooting.

For 1/8 i'd say the best shooting loads will probably be in the 62-69 grain range. It will definitely handle the 75 grainers but i'd wager slightly lighter weights will be the best shooters. Just my guess. I know my BCM 1/7 shoots 69-77 in very tight groups. Anything below that and i start to get a larger spread.

Well I'll find out one way or another! Smile  I've got 50, 55, 60, 63. 68, 69 and 75gr bullets to try!  If she seems to group better with heavy pills I'll get some 77s too!

Enjoyed putting her together and learned alot about the design.  It is well thought out to minimize the parts count for sure!

Working on loads now.  figure I'll stay about 0.5 grs below published max charge for each weight as it's been my experience to date that most of my guns have been most accurate on the hot load side of things! Cool

Could you elaborate? I have been toying with the idea of building one myself.

depends on how many aftermarket add-ons you get!!!

Tac and BL-C2 will give as good of results, while lowering your per shell cost.

Nice Rifle Bud, you did a fine job..Bucky

My Bushmaster 5.56/223 with the Wylde 1-8 Chamber loves the 77gr SMK's with RL-15.... For my rifle the 55 gr. bullets shoot all over the target and those are the only two Ive used. I would guess the 69 grain SMK's would shoot pretty well too, but again Ive never tried them out...Hopefully some day I will.

Looking forward to see how she shoots Bud. I bet it was fun putting it together.

Thanks everybody!  I got to the range yersterday and did a quick eval.  I'm thinking she might be a 1 in 9 instead ovf a 1 in 8 cause she liked 50 to 68gr pills.  69 and 75s started opening up.  69 was still prettty good.  All these were without load development.  I am happy with her and she throws all her brass slightly forward into a rather small pile!.  Graham's upper threw brass all over the place!

I have pictures but while I was at the range my son was using my PC and got a virus.  It's totally wacked and I'm going to wipe the drive and start over.  I'm on the daughter's laptop right now.

Hope everybody had a good turkey day!!!

Thanks!

Man I'm loving that Jard single stage trigger!  Got her adjusted for a very short stroke and virtually no over travel.  Crisp 3 lbs but it feels like less!!!  WAY better than my milspec trigger in my other lower!

G,
Did you see the pictures of my son's bear (PA black bear) in the hunting forum?
