I am  trying to get into long range shooting on a budget. Can anyone recomment a good scope under $350.00.

The stick it will be mounted on is a Rem 700 Heavy Barrel .308 with a 20 MOA Base and Burris 30mm Meduim Rings.

Thanks

The above is a very good option for fixed power optics.

For variable scopes in your price range this one is a good option.

Long Range means different things for different folks. How far are planning on working to? The 16x Super Sniper is also a good scope and in your ball park.

Any of the 3 I linked should be o.k.

If you are actually going to start doing competitive matches most of them limit you to 6x for some ranges, "which means you need a variable" but if you're just testing yourself and your gear, the fixed magnification might be better for you.

I have 2 of the Millett buck gold scopes and really like them. They are clear and easy to use. I have looked through the 10x SS and was really impressed with it as well. You'll get more adjustment with the SS line, but from your choice of rings and base, the Millett would also have more than enough adjustment to get you to 600 with a .308 with no trouble.

There are some good scopes to be had in your price range, nothing excellent, but really good gear that is plenty capable of doing what you are asking of it.

Those 3 would be my choices as best value and practical for what you want to do. "keep in mind that is just one guys .02, and you will likely get quite a few more opinions from guys doing the same type of shooting you are looking at doing and it might behoove you to listen to their .02 as well"

Welcome to the O.T.

I don't know your age but for me at 58 years old I use a 20x SS 0moa base and low Burris XTR rings. I don't shoot over 350 and have only shot that distance once, usually shoot @200, but the combo on my 308 should get me out to 1000 with some room to spare.
What I like about the 20x is being able to see those little 22cal. holes from my 223 @200, so I put one on the 308,25-06 and the 7mm rem.mag also. When funds allow for it I will switch a few more rifles to SS scopes3-9 and if the 4-20 ever comes out I'll be looking at that very closely.

.308 is kinda like the ole grey mare, she can do it,but she don't like it none. Out to 600 .243 is the bomb! And the .260 Rem. even better

Mine hasn't seen anything past 800 yards. 1000 is probably a possibility, but the amount of fall off makes me suspicious of having any real accuracy. It is almost like trying to drop a clothes pin into a milk jug from 30 feet up.

The .308 is an all time great round! Is it the best for long range shooting? Not even close,IMHO. The .260 Rem. and the .243 Win, both use the same parent case, push a lighter bullet, that has a higher B.C. at a high velocity. That being said, if you don't reload, the availability of match grade ammo falls off steeply with any caliber compared to .308!

For your budget and plans I would visit the samples list and look at the Bausch and Lomb and Vortex offerings that are there right now. The Vortex Diamondback 8x32 for $179 is pretty tempting and thay are suppose to have a terrific warranty. Not much to lose there.

There is an old saying, "Great glass makes even a cheap rifle shoot well." Save up and buy yourself a Zeiss Conquest with a rapid z-600 reticle. competitor.com sells Zeiss refurbs for @ $600 and they are worth every penny. I have one on a .223 WSSM and its amazing.
