This weekend i took a table my dad made to my grandparents. Figured while i was up here i would take advantage of all this public land.

I got set up outside this clover field that was established 35 years ago. The sun started cracking over the horizon. There was nothing for a while. About ten i was about to pack up and make my way back to the truck because I was freezing, weather app stated it was only 18 degrees. Before moving I hear some leaves cracking. And out of no where a buck walks out. He was about 100 yards out and was coming right toward me. About halfway he looks to the left and stops.

He then starts to his left. I bark at him. At this time im at full draw. I guessed he was about forty yards out. He starred right me and cocked his head sniffing. Then he started walking again. At this time im straining and bark again. Now he stopped dead in his tracks. I release.

Whamm! His back legs kick straight back. And he's in a mad dash. I give it a minute. Then pack up and go look for my arrow. Found it and there wasn't any blood on it. I was the really disappointed because I swore I hit him.

I start walking the direction where he ran and find brown blood.

I eventually found him. For an old man, he was a runner.  After the recovery, we started down the mountain, easier than climbing up at 1800 feet according to the topographical map on the GPS.

After we reached the bottom, I took him a friends house and strung him up to start the cleaning process.

This is the first deer I have ever harvested. I can't begin to express how excited I was after it was all said and done.  I will get some pics up soon.

CONGRATS to ya,Skylar!  Stored memories in the grey matter for sure. Two deer/hunts I'll never forget were the first I took with a rifle and the first I took with a bow.

Cool! Great job, Skylar!

I may have missed it, but I don't believe you said where (geographically) this hunt took place. Where'd you find rocks that large, just sitting out in the middle of nowhere?
