I recently purchased a BSA sweet 17 (6x18x40) to mount on my CZ 452 American 17hmr, the scope is mounted on Leupold rimfire, 3/8", high mounts (#54286).  The point of impact is high and I have been unable to sight in the scope because there is no elevation adjustment left.

Any suggestions as to what I might try to correct this situation. I don't believe I can use lower mounts as the bell of the scope may not clear the barrel of the rifle. Can I shim the rear mount ? if so, what material is recommended?

to start with did you find the optical center of the scope?

if not, you need to do this to make sure you have the right amount of adjustment in elevation and windage.

also try burris signature rings. these rings have plastic inserts so that you can "shim" the scope.

good luck
