I have a Browning BLR, I thought that the Leupold QR base and mounts would make a great combo.  WELL, the mount is to tall and obstructs the use of the open sights.   Why even offer the darn thing if its not going to work?  Any suggestions other than purchasing new mounts?  What about modifying these?  Anyone has any ideas,  I need your help.       Thanks

I wouldn't want to be modifying those bases if I were you. The Leupold QR bases are made to exact tolerances and modifying would most likely ruin them. Your best bet would be to install a higher profile rear sight on the Browning.

Several different companies make QD rings that will fit on a milspec rail, (ARMS & Larue are the only ones that come to mind but I am sure there are others),  they usually offer several different height options. I always recommend a 1 piece base, they allow the greatest forward to rear shift in your mount.

I actually have a BLR QR base on a BAR 7mm Rem mag.  I can use the open sights just fine.  I have 2 scopes that I use on the rifle, a Bushnell 3200 1.5-4.5X30 firefly set at 50 yards and a Simmions Atec 2.5-10X44.  The objective is pretty close to the rear open sight.  You need to trade the BLR off for a BAR.
