I own two Hawke Sidewinder Tac 30's. The one on my .300 win mag and its about 3-4 years old now. My other I just bought last summer and I mounted that baby on my AR-15.

I took my AR out last week and I had shot about 30 rounds. I put 15 more round in a clip and dumped it! It looked like my scope was a little fuzzy and sure enough, about an inch long tube was loose moving around in the scope! "Son of a b%@#", I yelled!

I wasn't expecting that one to break anytime soon because of the low recoil and it was only a year old. Now the one on my .300 win mag..that's a different story. I've beat the sh!t out of that one and its been awesome..so far. I mean I've dropped it, landed on it, rolled it, you name it.

So I make a call to Hawke and the guy sounded totally shocked about what I was telling him. Hopefully they aren't trained to act like they are in shock..anyway..he apologized to me three or four times and told me where to ship it to to get it fixed. I was impressed by the way he handled everything.

Now do I do still stand by Hawke? I think so. I mean these scope are super solid. Its a hefty scope and my .300 (and myself) have PUNISHED my other one. Hopefully this was just a fluke.

Yeah, I would stand by the replacement scope. Scopes and all things mechanical or man built are apt to fail. I've had a Zeiss Conquest go Tango Uniform.
Good on Hawke for taking care of you. We appreciate you sharing your story as well.

I came home from work today and sure enough I had a scope sized box on my porch. Opened it up and found a brand new Sidewinder with all new accessories that they always come with.

Once again pretty impressed with how they handled everything. If your ever are looking for a good quality scope that doesn't break the bank, I recommend giving them a look.

1) As I stated earlier. A Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44mm went TU on a .300 WM. Zeiss courteously and promptly replaced it. I think it was less than 2 weeks.

(Not actually went bad, but went back.)
2) US Optics SN-3 had debris "hanging off" the reticle. Sent it back and it was returned to me completely debris free.

The closest I came was before I knew better and purchased a sporting goods chain store brand scope. The second year I had it I went out target shooting and it would not adjust. No matter what I did the POI stayed the same. First year it was find, but after sitting over the winter it was not. I took it back and they gave me all my money back. But to be fair it was on a hard kicking rifle. An Anschutz 1416 HB. Big Grin

I guess I have been fortunate in that all of my other scopes have been perfect so far.

I have seen scopes in every rice range break. No QC is 100% perfect.

The guys at Hawke USA stand behind their product and support it well.

I broke a ballistic turret on a Swaro Z6. Was fixed at no cost and returned. No issues since.

I have a dead Swarovski Pro Hunter as we speak. SONA would even pay shipping both ways, but a local dealer will be handling the issue.
This is no big deal for me, as I can break an anvil.

Oh yeah? I get genius- brilliant and turn invisible just using what's inside a glass bottle.

My dad told me one time that I could mess up an anvil the a rubber mallet in a sand box. I always thought that meant to try harder...

I have thought I have broken a couple of scopes, but it always turns out to be the mounts! My first 10x SS was mounted in Burris POS rings. It moved forward hard enough to dent the rear parallax ring with the picatinney rail, but kept on working!

i have only had one Burris product not break, it may just be my luck but Im done with them. Never had a leupold break but Im told that some do. The Bushnells have not broken.  The Minox seems to have a very soft metal in the tube but good glass, dont think I want another one. No problem with my Zeiss or my Vortex.  As for Super Sniper Im not sure it is even possible to break them but Im sure there is someone somewhere making a diligent effort. I have not owned an IOR but would really like to have their little 4x.

Broken scopes. If you.need to.see if a scope is tough enough.to live just put it on.a bear rifle and let some coastal bush Alaskan use it for a year or 2 . . I've broke all that I owned. A friend has broke the reticle out of the top of the line S+B, Ziess, and Swarovski.
Compared to a coastal bush Alaskan Tactical shooters baby their rifles.   .
Granted the 1-4x20 VX ll and the 1.5-5×20 VXlll take a lot of abuse. Actually, I guess I did not break the fixed 3× 20 Leupold that I had on a 375 that I built. But, tho I shot italot I was very careful with it.

So, tho they are a little short on eye relief I'm gonna try the 1-6 SWFA scope on my 9.3×64 . I'm hoping that with the etched reticle it will hold up.
If it does I'll put one on my 416 and try the 1-4 on my 458 .
