I have a 3-9x32 Redhead Ascent on my .17 hmr and I'm looking to upgrade. I compared it side to side today with a Simmons of same power , and I think the Redhead has a clearer, brighter view. Any idea who is making these for BPS?
Oh yeah, I'm looking at the Mueller because it's cheap, higher power than what I have, and it's Silver. I don't want to jump out of the pot and into the fire. How's this stack up against the Redhead or Simmons?

Mueller 4.5-14x40 APV Riflescope APV Plex Mueller 4.5-14x40 APV Riflescope
Stock # - MAPV451440S
  • Silver
  • APV Plex
  • 1"
  • Adjustable Objective
$124.95

The reason I'm looking at the 14 power is because the crosshairs on my Redhead completely block over the 1/2" dots at 50 yards on the Snipers Hide Practical Tactical target. It really pisses me off that I can't clear it.

You might want to look at the Vortex Crossfire or Diamondback.  They are definately in your price range.  Their customer service is top notch and they make a better product.

I take it this is a paper punch for the range or does it get some hunting use as well. If you are primarily using this with a solid rest why not go to a tactical type scope with target knobs like a Super Sniper 16x or 20x ?  If you hunt it and need the lower power you might like the Vortex.   The Mueller is silver and if that is a big factor to you that may be enough to select it where I prefer a matte finish one less thing to reflect light. As far as quality its hard to find lower quality than the house brand of most large sporting goods stores about the only way to find lower quality is BSA but even they have one that may interest you because it is not only cheap but has a target type knob set up for 17hmr.

I just cleaned up the post for you since you probably cant edit yet.

I use it in the field kinda. Shooting turtles, squirrels, and prairie dogs if I got the chance. Never free standing, throw it up and shoot.
Silver is important to me. I can't stand to see a black scope on a stainless gun. I think it's the rings that throw it off, regardless if they are stainless or black. It just doesn't look right.

That's a negative on the BSA. I had one of those clunkers. No mas.
