You're correct -- I'm an unabashed 7-08 slut!
Even though I do pillar bed most of my rifles, I won't be pillar bedding this one, simply because the Rem Custom Shop has a very specific bedding concept for this rifle that's different from any other rifle they produce. Besides the steel forend cap that mates the end of the barrel to the stock, it has a bedding pad a few inches back of the muzzle and another bedding point at the recoil lug/front receiver ring area, and it's not bedded at the tang. Since I know nothing about the secrets of making Mannlicher stocked rifles shoot, I'm gonna leave this one alone. Plus, as you said; the fact it shoots as-is further cements my decision to leave it be. |

Back on the topic of Boyds --
Here's another 7-08 of mine (again... I'm a fan ) that I built from a Boyds blank that I whittled to my liking, with an ebony forend tip, steel grip cap, Ruger M77 MK2 action, Timney trigger, Shilen barrel, and S&K rings. Metal finish is "Titanium Blue" Cerakote. Stock finish is hand rubbed Laurel Mountain Forge "Permalyn" oil-modified polyurethane, wet sanded down to 1200 grit to a satin sheen. Back when this pic was taken 5 years or so ago, it had a Leupold Vari-X III 1.75-6X32. It now wears a Meopta Meostar fixed 6X scope. |

Ted, I love my 7MS, .257 Roberts, when I show it to guys some don't even realize its laminated. Nice quick little rifle for old guys like me. My TC G2 .45 ML is similar in size and weight. Skip |

Yep! If you recall, Skip, you and I were talking about that rifle a few weeks ago. I had been interested in the MS for years, but never bought one up to this point. That discussion, in fact, reminded me of how much I like the MS and it was what prompted me to casually peruse Gunbroker, when I found this rifle for what I felt was a very reasonable price. The rest, as they say, is history! The laminated wood on mine has a darker reddish-brown tint than some of the current versions of the MS I've seen, which I really like.

Ted, my checkering is wrap around also and my stock looks like it might be a touch darker than yours.Maybe it's just the light in the pic. I've not seen any MS rifles recently so I can't say anything about more recent builds. I got mine after seeing its introduction at the Shot Show. If you remember I said one of my buddies was the Remington rep where I live and I got it at his sample price. I took the iron sights off mine because i just like that profile. I'm puter challenged but maybe I'll take a phone pic and send it to Bud to post for me. |

Ted, saw the S&K rings on your other 7-08 and remembered they are made in Warren, Pa. That's where my wife is from and the S&K building is in the corner of the road where her cousin has a Buffalo farm.

Yeah, if you look at some of the newer MS's, they seem to have a lighter, more blonde wood color, they have 2 panel checkering on the forend, and both the grip and forend checkering has a border with an "arrow" motif. The checkering on the new ones looks machine cut rather than hand checkered.
How old is yours? Here are examples of newer ones... |

Cool! I don't think S&K makes those Ruger rings anymore. Or, at least I don't see them on their website anymore. I always thought those were really cool. The only rings I've ever seen where the entire system uses only 1 screw per ring! To me rings don't get more elegant than that! |

Got mine as soon as they were available. Saw it at the Shot Show and had my buddy order one in .257 Roberts.

Beautiful rifle Ted!! Alan, I have a Remy 700 with laminate stock that resembles your son's in 7mm Mag. It was my go to until this past season; my new Remy 7-08 maybe taking over that title. I'm using 140 accubonds which she really likes. |

I don't care for the newer style checkering and mine doesn't say Custom Shop on it either. At that time Model 7's all had 18" barrels and the 7 MS from the Custom Shop came with a 20" barrel. I believe the checkering on ours is 22 lines to the inch and it's crisp.

Howdy Mike, That 7 Mag stock looks to be close to the same type as on Alex's rifle. They use a different recoil pad, though. That's a fine pair of rifles you have there. Get someone to help you fire 'em both up at the same time and sing a duet. |

I did some "majoring" on my CZ barrel and the barrel channel on the Boyd's Rimfire Hunter and I think I can make it work.
I think this will compliment my CZ .17HMR nicely. Nutmeg or pepper?
