Second gun I ever bought was a Ruger Single Six pistol w/ 4 5/8" barrel. That thing road around under the seat of many-a vehicle and I shot about a bizzilion cans, bottles, stumps, varmints, snakes, really.....you name it...... when I was in my early 20's. I even loaned it to someone to put down a horse.

My Dad gave me a .357 Ruger GP100 when I graduated from college and the ole .22 magnum got shelfed for the most part. The paint on the grip frame was all scratched and chipped from riding under the seat, the hammer was rusted, the wood was worn out and had chunks missing, white line rear sight was hardly visible anymore, but the blueing was still pretty good on it.

Well Ruger came out with a Single-9 .22 magnum w/ 6.5" barrel this year and I started wanting one real bad. But ended up deciding to fix my old Single Six up. I figured 6 shots is enough, right ??

I ordered some Williams fiber optics sights and just happen to stumble up on an Al Story 8 shot 22 mag "drop in" cylinder while looking at sights. I couldn't believe it and jumped on ordering one !!   So I got all that in and replaced the sights and installed the 8 shot cylinder. It was a little tight at first but started working fine after several cycles. I took the grip frame off (after watching a Youtube video)and sanded/steel wooled it and painted it with some silver duplicolor. And I took some scotch brite to the hammer and cleaned it all up. I liked the two tone look of the silver grip frame with the blued gun, my son hate's it........be interesting to see what you guys think. I pulled the grips off  and filled the chunks in with filler before refinishing them. I did not do the best job but they look better than they did(probably should have spent some time on them). I ordered some grey/black laminated grips from Ruger but may return them, not sure right now. I am going to leave things as is for a little bit and then remove the grip frame again and powder coat it in either silver/grey or go back to matte black. My father in law has powder coating components in his car shop, lots of colors too.

Anyway, pretty pumped up! I hate I didn't take before pictures but I dove straight into replacing things before I thought about it.

Looks like a right good job. If you like the two tone then you should keep it. I suggest hitting the hammer with a lite coat of clear lacquer to help it stay bright longer. And the parts you silvered also if you don't change em. It looks really good for a truck gun, you did well!

Thanks, not bad for a 22 year old gun that spent a lot of time under the seat. I will post some more pics when my new grips come in.

Here it is, the new critter gitter.... It is my first single action and it sure handles nice. I am also planning on teaching my youngest daughter some firearm training with it. Figured it should work pretty well for this. Oh she just turned 20 todayBig Smile

Awesome man !!Those are just cool as it get's !! Cool

I shot mine last weekend and the 8 shot cylinder worked great. Love the new sights, really an improvement over the old style. I was getting about 6"- 8 shot groups at 20 yrds off hand. Not as good as I would have liked but it was freezing and I haven't shot a pistol in quite a while, maybe a couple of years. Whacko

Looks good, Brent! I kinda like the 2 tone look. Reminds me of the old Ruger Bearcat, with the brass trigger guard.

I too am really intrigued by the new Single 9, and will probably end up getting one. It's just too cool, and I don't know how long I'll be able to resist its charms! You have great taste, Kevin!
