Fridaymorning at 11;00 am we left for Calvinia to participate in the Veldblommetjie skiet (or in American the Fieldflower shoot). Calvinia lies 4 hours north of Cape Town in the heart of bushmanland. It is arid karoo veld, famous for the flowers that emerge each spring.

We arrived at the range at 3pm with perfect weather conditions. We then proceeded to shoot at 100m 200 and 300m for some range practise. That evening we booked in at a bed and breakfast establishment. The rest of the team were staying at the town school hostel, so we joined them for a South African meat braai (barbecue). Obviously rifles, ballistics and girls were discussed.
The next morning arrived with a 12mph wind! After signing up we started the day with about 90 contestants.
The disciplines were;
50m standing at chicken 4 shots
75m kneeling at chicken 2 shots
100m kneeling at Impala 5 shots
200m prone at warthog 5 shots
200m prone at springbuck 5 shots

The wind proved very tricky, making the chicken difficult.

We shot individually and as a team of 4. My final score was 2nd place on the 100m, 3rd place on the 200m warthog, 12th place overall and our team finished 3rd place.

Prizegiving was held at the local golf club. prizes consisted of various small items such as pocket knives, cleaning kits etc.

Enjoy the pics I took.

Nice showing, Wouter. Is that last pic your haul for the day?

Thats right... we cleaned up the competition. No first prizes, but as a team we were happy. This is also my first shoot with my RemVSF. Still long way to go.
